I have a proof on some monsters in Innsmouth

By Guest, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I'm pretty sure Innsmouth will have a monster with "if you fail the evade check, you're devoured" and another monster with "if you fail the combat check, you're devoured" and another monster "if you fail the evade or horror check you're devoured".

Proof:

We already have a monster that devours you if you fail the combat/horror check (skinless one).

We already have a monster that devours you if you fail the horror check (shan)

We already know of a monster that devours you if you fail the evade or the combat check (servitor of the outer gods)

So all we're missing is evade, combat, and evade+horror.

Also we might see a monster with "if you fail the evade, horror or combat check you're devoured"

That's a theory, not proof! Grrrrrr!

You might be right, but I don't they FFG aims for 'perfect symmetry' in monster abilities. They may leave some gaps.

Don't talk to me about symmetry. There are still 2 combinations of other world colors that are yet to be used enfadado.gif

edit: I meant aren't used a second time

Also I have another kickass idea: A set of monsters, 1 for each symbol except the moon, that can't be killed and the only way to get rid of them is to close an appropriate gate.

My roomate is Obsessive Compulsive, and has to have symmetry in all things. He stocks the fridge with exactly six of each type of six different pops, arrainged in rows. I am allowed to take one, but only if I restore it to the previous order, putting the new, warm can in the back. It is kind of funny, but kind of annoying, too.

I don't think that Fantasy Flight is like that, but maybe. I mean, I'd rather have theme first, playability second, and symmetry a distant third. What do you guys think?

But if they are focused on symmetry, then I could see your theory being pretty accurate.

Kroen, you need to find out what the word "proof" means. You sure use it a lot, but not once correctly.

I doubt that there will be that many monsters that devour you should you fail something. The only monster(s) pre-Kingsport that would devour you should you not beat them were The Beast, The Dunwich Horror, and the Dimensional Shambler if Yog was the GOO. Kingsport intoduced the Shan, Moonbeast, Skinless One, etc and I feel like that was enough. Monsters shouldn't be able to devour you so easily. Devouring is something that should happen rarely, under special circumstances, or it looses all the meaning and scariness of being devoured.

As stated, this is not proof. All the options of the game do not need to be exhausted and everything doesn't have to fit into a perfect little order. As a matter of fact, I would greatly welcome more weight and irregularity into Other Worlds. I would like it to be that certain dimensional symbols were less frequently banished due to other worlds having that symbol. I would like to see harder other worlds. It would provide for better distinctio between dimensional symbols and create many more interesting situations.
