As much as I love new cards like Celeborn and Naith Guide, I've decided to take a break from elves until Silvan is a more viable playstyle.
In the meantime, I've been thinking about an elf-free "Arnor" deck. One of my friends plays Gondor and another Rohan, so I think a thematic deck from the Northern Kingdom would be quite fun to play.
I wasn't sure how to go about this. At first I tried Aragorn (core set), Beravor and Frodo. They make it tri-sphere. Aragorn felt like an obvious choice. Frodo is great for defending if your starting threat is low. Beravor is a great hero, gives Lore access and fits the theme.
With these three, I won PtM in 12 rounds. Not quite satisfied.
I switched Beravor for Sam and relied on Ring of Barahir to play Warden of Healing and the few traps I run.
With Aragorn, Sam and Frodo, I won PtM in 6 rounds (which is what I usually get with my usual line-ups inlcuding Elrond and Glorfindel).
Sword that was broken could help with spheres, but just putting it on Aragorn is hard to resist. The willpower boost is immense. I could quest for 10 WP with Frodo, Sam and Arwen each turn, and Steward of Gondor on Aragorn absolutely swarmed the table with rangers.
I have found that I really like Leadership and Spirit as spheres. I've been playing Lore for so long that I'm a bit tired of it. However, I find it a bit hard to manage without certain and powerful healing. Those of you who do not usually play Lore, how do you handle damage? Do you rely on other players to run healers, or do you just chump block a lot and try to keep your heroes intact?
And the obvious question: Have you tried to build dúnedain decks? What's your best try?
I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the Ringmaker cycle, both in regards to Silvan and Dúnedain support.
