Sun stone

By Zelgadis, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi guys, I have a question in regards to the Sun stone token when it is unclaimed. I am not sure if this was addressed in another post. If so, please link it ^__^

What happens to the sun stone relic when the player hero is defeated and the token is not reclaimed by the heroes or the overlord by the time the encounter ends?

Here is what essentially happened:

  • Scenario : Encounter 2 of Honor among thieves.
  • Overlord : Played by me and I had 11 fatigue tokens.
  • Heroes : 3 players, 125 gold (condition to win) and were on their way to get off the map to win the scenario.

I was able to defeat the hero who had the sun stun relic, therefore he had to drop the token. Defeating him gave me my 12 th fatigue token and thus winning and ending the encounter. I was not able to pick it up and meet the conditions to get the relic for myself.

Since I did not meet the criteria to get the relic, do the heroes get to keep the relic and the token for the next quest? Is the relic out of the game and out of reach for them and me?

Just curious to see what's the take on this.

Many thanks

My interpretation is that the relic stays with the heroes: They have possession of the relic from winning the introduction, and until such a time as the overlord meets the criteria for stealing it permanently, they keep it.

An official ruling would be nice however.

Are you insane? Nobody could possibly interpret the rules ... oh wait, that was a few days ago :P . I'm better now :D

Actually, this same thing happened to us, and we decided to rule the way Whitewing suggested. Since I (the OL) didn't actually meet the conditions for acquiring it permanently, we decided that I didn't notice it laying there on the dungeon floor.

Later on, Mata and Kata came and picked it up and brought it back to the heroes  . **** Mata and Kata. **** heroes.

EDIT: Of course, if I would have read the FAQ better, this was answered on page 6, under General Rules:

Q: What happens if a hero with the sun stone is defeated and the sun stone
token is not picked up before the end of the encounter?
A: The sun stone is returned to that hero.

Well problem solved, looks like we were both right.

Many thanks for the responses.

Our house rule is that whoever wins the encounter gets to keep the sun stone when it's on the ground. Whoever loses the encounter evidently runs away, so the winning side would naturally gain possession of relics that are just lying around. I don't disagree with the other two answers or the official ruling; this is just an improvised house rule that my group and I like as a substitute.
