Most convenient way to get upgrades only found with Huge ships without buying the huge ships ?

By Fanfan, in X-Wing

Hello !

I have recently started playing the game, and I am bothered by the fact some (nearly unavoidable) upgrades on the rebel side can only be found in huge boxes.

I am wondering if there is a reliable secondary market to get those cards, in particular C3PO.

I am also looking for x-wing pilots like Tarn Mission.

It is very frustrating as I feel I would not be able to build the squadrons I like without a significant spending, for ships that I don't really want to own and store.

I am tempted to completely ignore rebels and going the imperial side for this single reason.

Any help or advice would be welcome !

Thanks !

I've been having the same issue with Ferrari. I keep explaining to them how much I really want one of their cars, but they refuse to budge on the price. Those guys are so greedy like that.

There is a trade thread. Also I've noticed some people selling cards on ebay.. might try there.

Going with the Empire probably won't solve your problem either. I would bet once the huge Imperial ships are out, they will have "exclusive" upgrades as well.

I just want a "Ferrari sticker" from the whole Ferrari package. I hope there would be a way not to spend a few hundred thousands on that.

At the club level, just copy them. For mini local club tournaments we always see people wirh xeroxed cards and upgrades. The game is meant to be enjoyed and buy when you can.

Look at it this way: if you feel that you absolutely need (not want) the ships included in the transport, just save up for a few weeks. It's roughly the cost of four regular expansions, surely you can wait that long.

Now if you are regularly using the same cards then you should buy them. Once in a while copy jobs is not gonna hurt.

Good luck. They aren't common because almost no one needs two Corvettes.

The x-wing is just a gateway ship to stronger and more powerful ships but they come at a heavy price....fly Empire!!

Just buy the transport and if you don't want it sell it and all the cards you don't need on e-bay. I see incomplete transports go for over $30 all the time.

I luckily got the Transport's x-wing pilots, tiles and astromechs off ebay. Really have no need for the big ships at all.

Almost all of those upgrades are uniques. (Actually all of the ones I can thing of right now, but I confess that their might be others) And some people I know have bought more than one of the big ships (I don't know why, perhaps they have mean wives and they are trying to get even) But as long as some people are buying more than one huge ship, they will have unique upgrade cards they can't use.

There's a site that buys Magic: The Dithering cards, Pokeman, and others. I sold about 30 cards and got $130 in-store credit. Because of that, I have a Corvette, Transport, and Imperial Aces heading my way.

If it wasnt a tournament you can print proxy copies.

It's the propose of the exclusivity, you need to buy the ship to get the upgrade, some ships has the same upgrade, but mostly has a only copy in one ship, greettings.

Exactly. The most direct answer to the OP's question: Print off the cards you can find on the X-Wing Minis Wiki.

Bippity-bam. No fussing around with spending $45-$90 on models you don't care for, no debating over the best way to eBay old items or the quickest way to collect recyclable soda cans.

There's no reason anyone should be paying $90 for their CR-90. Miniature market has them for like what, $61? Pretty much anywhere online is discounted, be it MM, eBay, Amazon, etc.

Yes, I know practically speaking it can be had for less than retail. Technically, I didn't specify particular models to be bought in that price range, only that it isn't necessary. But a lot of places sell it for that so hypothetically people are paying that much to get those models though probably not anyone who only wants them for their cards. But I don't want to debate who thought who meant what.

If the Transport is going for $45 on Amazon and is currently reselling by itself (without the X-wing and its cards) for $30 then you're basically getting the new X-wing for retail. Sounds like a fair option.

I've used printed cards to proxy quite a few Imperial pilots before purchasing their respective upgrades, and played against a number of squads with proxied Stealth Devices and other upgrades. As long as the math adds up I can't care what my opponent actually spent on his cards.

The only hitch is when the proxied pilot's skill doesn't match any available ship base token, which aren't as easy to proxy. I find it helps to use the number tokens to match pilot skill (ie Porkins is numbered as #7 or Howlrunner becomes #8).

thats funny. I have almost my whole x wing collection to thank for a 5 revised dual lands. My local gaming store gave me a killer deal 700 bucks (300 in store credit) and sold off all 5 within a week for around 1k. They made 300 bucks / my wife got 400 cash and I got a huge collection.. hehe. Best part, i still have all the rest of my collection, only gave up 5 cards.

I've never seen figures from the Rebel Transport set sold separately at the bay of E. Not doubting you, but just haven't see it myself. I live in the States, BTW, so I only use the regular bay site.

That, and they tend to get heavy discounts if you look around. Managed to get the transport for £33 (versus £50) and more recently the Tantive for £50 (versus £80).

But if you can't get them or don't want them, just proxy the cards. Unless you're planning to go tournament you don't need the official copies.
