Beyond the Rim - Changing 1st Imperial Encounter

By Atraangelis, in Game Masters

Heya folks,

We just completed chapter 1 and are now moving thorugh chapter 2,

I have decided to alter the first imprial encounter on the Jungle Planet.

The imperials will arrive on a VIGIL class corvette from AoR instead of the little ship in BtR. THey will also have a single Walker and approx 2x the number of scout troopers and a small squad of storm troopers.

I plan on boosting this encounter as this will be the first time in our campaign that my party will come face to face with the full force of the Imperium.

Im looking for any thoughts or input on how a change like this may affect the rest of the module from others who played all the way through so far.

A change like this should only be done if your players are way beyond starting level. The walker alone will require heavy weapons or another vehicle with planetary-scale weaponry to take down, and it can take out one PC per hit. Not to mention that you're tripling the number of opponents. Unless you have some serious combat monsters in the group they're likely to get wiped out in the first couple of rounds.

Your absolutely right,

I have 1 CC monster in the party but i want the party to be utterly outclassed.

This event I am using as the catalyst to get them off planet.

In all honesty i dont plan on having the Walker fireon the party its there simply to reinforce the fact that this is not a fight the players should try to do... as they are usualy apt to try!

I like the change, and I plan to do something similar. But of course, I don't expect my players to solve the encounter by force, that will be silly.

Possibly a few sessions from this point too. Players about to meet their first Nexu this week. So, I'm interested in how this change shakes out in your games.
