It's been a very long day, and I have no head for numbers (even on a good day). So, which is better, Backstabber or a Black Squadron with Outmaneuver. The BS+O is 1 point more, but which is more effective, one more attack die or one less agility die?
Backstaber or Outmaneuver
I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this, but I'd say "Backstabber" all day. One point less, a pilot skill 6 instead of 4, and attack dice are superior than agility dice to begin with.
That said, you can't have two "Backstabbers" so maybe your 17 point BSP + Outmaneuver can have a place alongside "Backstabber" in a squad.
An attack dice effectively has 4/6 successful sides on it. (the second number includes the focuses) An agility dice and 3/5 successful sides on it. So I would say that an attack dice is worth more than an agility. Gaining an attack is better than forcing someone to lose an agility.
Add to that the consideration that Backstabber has a higher PS and is cheaper.
Final Answer: Backstabber.
That being said I would hope that a unique pilot gets his ability for a little cheaper than an ability that does basically the same thing that you can put on any ship with an EPT ugrade.
Attack Dice have a higher chance of generating damage than Agility Dice have of preventing the damage.
As Backstabber is also cheaper, and has a higher PS...
That was what I figured, my brain is just too fried to sort it out right now! ![]()
Thanks everyone!
Black squadron with predator would be better than BS with outmanuever anyway.
Backstabber! PS, point cost, 4 attack at range 1, and awesome nickname and art!

Outmaneuver though also prevents C3PO on Falcons when not at range 3 so that while situational might be a factor to consider, normally I would recommend Backstabber, but if there are lots of C3POs in you area paying that extra point may be worth it
I wish I could take outmanouver on Backstabber. I'd pay 19 points for that ![]()
hmm.. i was thinking of running two BS w/ outmanuever on a flank with 4 acadamys and howl on the other.
anyways i think it really comes down to what you are trying to do with your list. predator is great since it always works though I wouldn't take it on ships that will be flying in formation with howl. outmanuever has it's uses as well, especially if you are flying against rebels. I don't think anyone running y-wings/b-wings would want 2 or 3 BS w/ outmanuever to get in behind him... backstabber is probably better than a BS+out as he should be as a named pilot, that being said you can only take one of him.
oddeye, I have tried something similar to that build and took apart a falcon/x/b list extremely quickly.

that gives me hope. I'm running it this upcoming Thursday.. I might tweak the list a bit. I really think outmaneuver shines while playing against rebels / with their low agility and inability to evade (most rebel scum ships anyway) will really make those 2 BS look horrifying.
I'm almost tempted to run
2x Black Squadron w/ outmaneuver
1x Vader w/ outmaneuver
2x Black Squadron w/ predator
The previous list is definitely better though this one looks like fun! I love running thematic lists.. Run vader with the two bs predators on one flank and the other two bs w/ outs on the opposite flank. Defend the trench! I actually have enough outs and preds for this as well.. hmmm.. the list is lacking fire power though.. might stick with the original.
Edited by oddeyeYou talk my kind of talk. I know the advanced is meant to be bad but come on, it's Vader! Why wouldn't you.
