Just so people know, the ships I receive in the next few weeks are headed to Camp McCloskey, Afghanistan. I have received a lot of correspondence from people willing to help out, so this is fantastic.
"Let 'em Fly" campaign-support our troops
Count me for a y wing
I have created a google doc to track who has sent what, and where those materials are going to. I know many of you have sent materials to me, so when I receive them, I will update the doc. And when I send the package overseas, I will also update it. It is open to anyone with the link, which is here:

To anyone going to the Chicago Regional and wanting to send me ships, Victor Robles has agreed to accept the ships for me there. So save your money and give the ships to him. He will give them to me the next Saturday, then I will try and get them in the mail august 4th.
Chad Hoefle (ME) will bring a set of Imperial Aces to Chicago.
Do you have a PayPal account I could send a few bucks to, and then you could grab a ship of your choice? I think I'd be more inclined to donate if you could save me the time and money involved in shipping.
When I was in Iraq we had a Major who organized a local gaming group. He had support from his local gaming store and would get new games every month for us to try out. I remember playing BANG for the first time in 2003. Good times! We also played alot of Magic the Gathering.
I'll tell you that is one thing the troops really like... everyone wants to send snacks and baby wipes.... and while those things are great, after the first 6 months we ended up getting our own PX over there and could buy alot of that stuff on our own. It's the rare and hard to find stuff that was most useful.... for me that meant Guitar strings, picks, and anything gaming / entertainment related.
You can paypal me at:
please let me know that you are doing this, so I can keep track of who has sent what.
When I sent the package to Brendan, I also included jelly beans and USA Todays. I will likely be adding other little things like this to the package as well. Stuff that I know the guys enjoy getting.
I donated $15. I would have sent this message in private, but your inbox appears to be full. Ship choice is up to you, so feel free to fill in the cracks with whatever other people don't send.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHI just cleaned out a bunch of pm's, so thanks for letting me know. Hopefully I can receive pm's again now. Thanks for sending that. I will make a trip this weekend and see what I can get.
Wow. Just wow. There are going to be some exciting things happening with this campaign within the next few months. more details to follow in the coming weeks, but here is what I know so far:
1. FFG wants to be a part of this endeavor. I have to put together a short presentation for the higher-ups. So it will be a few weeks or so. My worry is that people will stop contributing because they think,"Oh, FFG has this. I don't need to give anything." So please don't let my fears materialize.
2. I will be running a fundraising tournament, sometime in September. More details to follow, but it should be an absolute blast to play in, and should bring in money for card sleeves, shipping, and all of the other little things that need attending to with something like this.
Stay tuned!
Good on FFG, I look forward to hearing some kind of official announcement. Hey, maybe it'll happen around Christmas time!
outstanding! somehow I'm not surprised.. FFG always seems to be on point. Makes me want to keep buying their products. The same cannot be said for a certain "shall remain nameless" gaming workshop company..
So, I'm headed to a lil local tournament tonight, the buy-ins turn into prize support. So from I'm reading the wish list is:
Y-Wing
TIE Advanced
HWK-290
Z-95
TIE Phantom
If I do well, I'll use my prize gift cert to start filling it in. I already have an Imperial Aces pack for you.
Any of those would be great, Hexis. Thanks so much!
Trying to send you some money Hothie, but paypal isn't letting me. Just says it can't do that now. i'll try it again latter today and again tomorrow if needed.
Glad to hear FFG is getting on board, I was thinking it may not of hurt to contact them about it, just for some added publicity if nothing else.
Toss a Defender on the pile from me, possibly more. I should be able to get them to you on Aug. 2nd or 3rd.
All four players from the Level Up Games tournament tonight in MN donated their prizes, so we got 8 small ships to help fill out things:
TIE Fighter
TIE Advanced
TIE Phantom
Z95
Z95
X-Wing
B-Wing
HWK-290
Thanks to Matt Holland, Jason McMahon and Ryan Hatzenbeller for tossing in their prizes as well.
I'm also adding an E-Wing and Imperial Aces box on my own, so add that to the list. I'll bring it to Chicago so Victor can shuttle it down to you.
I'm proud to announce, thanks to the efforts of this great community, that package #1 has been filled. I will receive the rest of the ships on August 2nd, to be sent out to Afghanistan on August 4th. Any extras that I receive will be reserved for package #2 and so forth. Thank you for showing that we are the best gaming community in the world!
Hey Hothie, everyone else.
Just had at thought I wanted to mention. Might be kind of cool if you could get everyone who donated something to write out a note if they wanted, to be included with the package. Wouldn't have to be long just a page or so. But I know when I was in the Army mail from home was a huge thing, so having some letters mixed in with the ships might be a nice touch.
Letters are always welcome. I also plan on sending other little goodies that I know I enjoyed getting while I was overseas.
This pic is from the Chicago Regional today, for the campaign:
With the money that has been donated so far, I bought a Transport to send over there on the 4th.
I have an E-Wing and Phantom from a local casual play tourney yesterday, along with a donation to be used for another ship and to help with shipping. Got another event next week that may hopefully produce around the same and will send it all along afterwards.
