Sorry for the necromancy, but I absolutely love this, and am adding it to my idea list!

Quick question for the few people who've done this - has anyone tried spray painting a layer of matte varnish (Testor's Dullcote or Krylon Matte Finish) over these? I love the look, but am not a fan of the gloss.

Unless you just want to do this yourself warmats.com sells pretty much exactly this @ ~$50 for a 3x3 mat, and they work excellent. I wish I had discovered them first; I would've saved some money.
