Can someone give me a step by step on the cloak/decloak mechanic?

By Nickotine42, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've never played with/against a phantom, but will be doing some solo playtesting over the weekend.

I think I understand it to be...

Decloak (must perform a 2 barrel roll or straight): before you reveal the maneuver dial and can be done while stressed. I assume that if you are ioned you cannot? And since this occurs before your movement, you can only decloak before the ship has moved, regardless if you cloak again later in your turn?

Cloak (can not attack, +2 agi): As an action. So with Adv. Sen. you can cloak before your movement. As an action, you can not perform this if stressed. If you are running both Adv. Sen. and PTL, can you decloak, (Adv Sen.) boost/focus/barrel roll, etc., cloak (stress), then do movement?

Advanced Cloaking: After you perform an attack (does not need to hit) you may perform a free cloak action. Again, if stressed you can not perform?

Stygium: you may perform a free evade after you cloak or decloak. Again, if stressed, can not perform?

Am I cruising on the right path so far? What else should i be on the look out for? I anticipate running into some phantoms at my regional and would like to be schooled up beforehand.

Thank you for your help.

Looks right to me.

You can't decloak if you have a ion token, because you don't reveal your dial, and yes it has to happen before you reveal your dial, so you can only do it before you go into the preform maneuver step.

You have the cloaking part right as well, including the interaction with AdvSen and PtL.

Stress is a big deal to the phantom, because as you say you can't cloak it when stressed, because you can't preform any action when stressed. That includes the evade action from Stygium.

The best way to deal with a Phantom is cause them stress, Ion's work well as well. If fighting one don't fly in too tight of a formation because it's easy for them to get out of your arc.

Also just because it's cloaked doesn't mean you can't TL or shoot at it. Yes it has 4 dice, but having an Interceptor one shot at range 3 isn't impossible so don't miss a chance to take a shot at it, just because it's cloaked. Assuming of course you don't have a more important target elsewhere.

If using pilot "Echo", the 2-bank is used instead of the 2-straight. Either forward or back for the side roll as well. It makes her quite a mobile pilot.

And you can not decloak, adv sen cloak, decloak, then move. The second decloak is not allowed?

The second decloak is not allowed?

No it's not, you can only preform one action per trigger. So you can only decloak once per reveal of your dial.

I love it when someone asks a question and already has everything right.

Thanks. I read the cards and know the order of things. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any 'gotchas' out there.

If a Tie Phantom performs a maneuver that overlaps a obstacle can he use Advanced Cloaking Device. I know he skips the perform the action step. But can you take a fee actions if you had to skip the "perform an action step".

Yes they can. The only things that limits a free action is stress, if you've already done the action, and would the action force you to now overlap. And thats not just Adv Cloaking. That applies to all free action givers. Cracken, Lando, etc. Tokens are a different story.

If you were on the asteroid, with Advanced Sensors, you could in theory AS to "Cloak," then spend the token to "Decloak" off the asteroid (following normal barrel roll rules for clear path), then reveal your dial. With PTL, you could "Cloak" "Barrel Roll" (stress) "Decloak" (essentially a nearly length 4 decloak) then reveal dial.

Exactly length 4, actually.

A 1 maneuver template is the same width and height as a small ship's base.
