Cortosis... on Weapons?!?

By NatemusMaximus, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So one of the players in group was asking about weapons with the Cortosis quality. In both CRBs it says that a weapon with the Cortosis quality is immune to Sunder. However, I haven't seen any weapons with this quality or any mods that would give a weapon this quality. The only mod that I've seen that does this is the armor mod "Cortosis Weave."

So did I miss something? Are there weapons with the Cortosis quality or weapon mods that imbue this? I have all the published materials but maybe I haven't searched thoroughly enough. Or has anyone created a custom mod that gives the Cortosis quality to a weapon?

Thanks.

(If this has been covered before than a brief synopsis or friendly link will do.)

Our Marauder picked up a Cortosis Vibrosword off a dead NPC. Immune to Sunder has come in handy (vs. Vibroaxe or Lightsaber). I also expect it can't be destroyed with two Triumphs like most weapons can.

In the old EU pure Cortosis weapons shut lightsabers down...

(Cortosis Weave weapons were common in Knights of the Old Republic games. They didn't shut lightsabers down, they just didn't turn to molten slag when used to parry lightsaber weapons.)

There are some qualities and attachments that were meant for forward compatibility. I'm looking at you, Weighted Head! I would not be surprised if we see a cortosis alloy attachment of some sort or just weapons with the Cortosis property in Force and Destiny.

But that didn't stop me from having one of my players find an ancient scimitar with the cortosis property. He only just found out that it's a Sith Warblade.

So you won't see any official pricing for at least another month, but think of a price that sounds fair to recast weapons as Cortosis.

This is mentioned offhandedly in the description for Cortosis in the rules, but only for the really good stuff. So I suspect they wanted to keep it up to GM's if they allow Cortosis to short out lightsabers.

It's nice to know I'm not going crazy. Thanks guys.

I think I'll try this. Besides the price I was thinking of sticking with the weave precedent and making it take up 2 HP as well. Seems fair to me.

Thanks!

I'd say that, as far as shorting out Lightsabers, Cortosis should have to be prepared a certain way before doing so, and the whole process should be long, expensive, and grueling.

How many credits, days, and headaches is up to you.

I plan on following the Knights of the Old Republic version where cortosis weapons can stand up to lightsabers without being sundered. Of course, lightsabers will be very rarely seen. Without dropping a specific spoiler there's one key scene in Jewel of Yavin where a lightsaber comes into play where the heroes wielding cortosis weapons will be important (if the scene goes down the road of violence).

I expect that when we get stats for the MagnaGuard elevtrostaves they will have the Cortosis quality.

I never notice we just used the cost for the armour mod.

What do you know, Kaosoe?

I wish I did have some inside information for Force and Destiny. That line was based on the conjecture that F&D beta will be released at GenCon and that it would have rules for a Cortosis weapon attachment. I could be wrong on both accounts, but the odds are good that if a Cortosis weapon attachment would appear at all in any of the 3 core rulebook lines, it would be in F&D.

It would be nice if FaD has a Cortosis weapon attachment. It'd be preferable to the alternative.

I can't really say what the alternative might be, but having a simple Cortosis attachment for weapons would certainly be the path I'd prefer. It would follow the pattern for armor and increase options.

I just statted an electrostaff out this morning. I gave it Cortosis.

While the convenience of a Cortosis weapon attachment would be nice, it wouldn't make much sense to take an existing sword and suddenly, with the simple addition of an attachment, it's a Cortosis weapon. Cortosis is alloyed with other metals and then forged into a weapon. And while I'd allow them to be resistant to Sunder, I'm not sure I'd allow them to short out a lightsaber unless the blade was actually made from pure Cortosis. From Wookieepedia:

Another use was to make pure cortosis blades, which were used to short out a lightsaber for an advantage.
