If you added a non-Star Wars ship to the game...

Sauce?

Its a Drake Interplanetary Caterpillar from Star Citizen. Bit of an odd choice I think seeing as it's designed for hauling cargo (and Contraband), There are plenty of dedicated dogfighters from that game.

BTW its not actually out yet but if you look it up theres a good chance you'll end up spending money on it, if you like spaceships at all (which you do because you're reading this thread).

I looked it up after someone mentioned it on this forum and ended up backing it. You can buy spaceships! THERE ARE BROCHURES!!!!!!!!

*snip*

least thing you could do is post pics of the high-poly updates the Freespace-community made over the years (all Terran ships had at least one itteration of updates:

EDIT: stats for the Apollo and Herc, based on my stats for the Mara on page 1, which is in turn based on the original game data:

Apollo 2 3 2 0/2

Hercules 3 2 2 0/3

I was gonna, but I decided to give the original ones first because they better showed the silhouette of the fighters, especially the Apollo. The pretty version doesn't give an accurate portrayal of its overall shape.

I just watched Serenity and I never noticed it in the background but considering the planet, I have to say kudos to Firefly again. Most of us on here have probably seen Serenity but just in case: the gang goes to a "forbidden planet" called Miranda. They picked up a distress beacon from a crashed ship. The ship was a search and rescue ship, kinda like the ship in Forbidden Planet above, same mission. The s&r ship that crashed on Miranda was designated C57D. It was on the wall of the ship as the gang entered it. Not sure how to post a pic but if you google serenity firefly miranda then scroll though the pics, you can see it; gang watching the hologram chick with the C57D on the wall behind them. Great Easter egg nod to a sci-fi classic from a modern classic series.

I love stuff like this.

on a serious note:

just kidding. red dwarf is not a serious show, it's hilarious!

Edit: forgot stats.. for gordon i'd say 4111.. the dwarf: 0088.

Red dwarf should be 0,-5,400,0

It is clear from the series that the Dwarf can take a huge amount of fire with no noticeable effect. Note due to the size of the ship you get -5 agility (which adds 5 attack dice to the person shooting you)

Well if we're adding big ships

EXCELLENT PAINTJOB.

I really want this model now. Curious did you do the markings with decals or freehand? and what material did you get the model in? Did you have to sand back the fuzz much before painting?

Everything on the model was painted freehand. Even the Eagle 5 crest on the doors were just little blobs of paint that hopefully made it look like the actual crest from far away. I scoured google the best I could for reference photos. I ordered the model in Frosted Ultra Detail. There was no sanding neccessary. Everything was painted with GW paints and washes.

Cheers. You did a **** nice job of it.

Has anyone mentioned this bad boy yet?

I wonder if anyone would even recognize the ship...

And while we're at it, lets add the capital ships too

Get a load of these!

X-Bomber from Starfleet! With added fighters which detach to become a giant flying space robot!

Space Battleship Yamoto!

And it looks absolutely fanstastic. Seeing that was one of the things that is inspired me to start painting again rather than just modelling

Yes, it had been mentioned but, given that it's a stealth ship I think it's understandable that you missed it =P

I agree it's stupid an nonsensical, 64 TW is the more power than the Earth produces in heat at it's core. The numbers that they throw around on both sides, by creators of the series and the fans, are nonsensical, but fanatical star wars fans have the most biased calculations I've seen. And that Slave I figure a good example.

The thing is, that Slave-1 reading is not fan made, it was printed in an official book detailing the stats of many SW ships. It could be argued that given GWs are measured over the course of a second, and Slave-1 does not fire continuous shots, it's power per shot is lower. It's stated Rof is 480 RPM or 8 RPS. This would bring its power output per shot down to 8,000 GW. Still obscene and inconsistent given the damage it is shown to do to small asteroids.
Never said it was fan made, suspended disbelief is one thing, butsuspended intelligence is a whole other level.tumblr_mm7uvhK0eh1qetsgao1_400.gif

Best Gif ever!!

Otherwise you have X-Wings obliterating capital ships, and that's just no fun for anyone and stretches plausibility more, IMO.*

That's probably what I'd do is adding B5 or Star Wars ships to something like Battlefleet Gothic or Starfleet Battles.

*YMMV, at the same time that could be pretty funny, if point-costed properly

Starfleet Battles?!

what's that?

May as well add one Trek ship in here, and it's the most Star Warsy of them. Lock S-Foils into Attack position:

Have we had Macross Variable Fighters added yet?

Love the YF-19 and the VF-1

Heck. if the sky is the limit then ill add one of my creations the Space Pirate Battleship Lorelei

Ah, yes.

I only ever played StarFleet Command, which was a PC game so automated all the hard stuff, but never have I come across a game so detailed. And that's just the training manual.

Tbh, I prefer the elegance of the abstractions we see in X-Wing. This is especially true since SFB is SO complex that I've never had a hope of getting anyone to play it with me. On the other hand you can pick up the basics of X-Wing in about half an hours but still enjoy a lot of tactical depth. My wife thinks Star Wars is ridiculous, but she loves X-Wing.

Depth vs complexity.

SFB is a very very complex game, but it is also a very very good game. If you like that kind of super crunchy, micro manage everything type game it's amazing, for the other 95% of gamers it's pure drudgery.

It's also my go to example of a game that almost perfected itself out of existence. Back in the late 80s they did a massive revision, cleaning up the mess all the expansions had made of the rules and turned it into exactly the game they and their fans wanted. Then they updated all the various ships and products for the new edition. And then what? Lately they have been publishing "experimental" ships and alternate history empires and such, as well as adding whole new sections of galaxy to their setting. IT would be like x-wing, for wave 30 was having to add "what if incom hadn't defected to the rebellion? Here is an imperial x-wing".

When Attack Wing was first announced, I had hopes they would marry SFB with the X-Wing Flight Path System. Instead of cards, having sheets with sheild facings and components to chew through for damage. It was a bit of a let down that they went with a simplified version. So much could have been done with this...

SOTI_Lighting-Study_V1.jpg

It has no weapons, but survived a black hole, among other horrors, and can shrink to subatomic size. I'd use it in primarily in a blocking role, and occasionally to blow my opponent's mind with wonder.
