Future POD Mini Expansions - Wishlist

By GrimGuvna, in Talisman

As Talisman raeches it's zenith with regards to Big and small box expansions the new concept of Mini POD expansions started by The Nether Realm will take over and continue to drive further interest in the game.

The scope available for these mini expansions is staggering and I have started this thread for fellow gamers to post their wishlists and concepts to inspire and hopefully prod designers to bring some into existence.

I'll get us started:

Desert of Doom

A deck of special themed adventure cards thet you draw from whenever you land on the desert spaces in the middle region. (No more Blizzards in the desert)

Shadow of Death

A deck of special cards that you draw from when you land on a space occupied by the Grim Reaper featuring events unique encounters that may happen when the Reaper is nearby. (Could also include the optional Danse Macarbre ending)

Wrath of the Wizard

A deck of cards that a player draws from when they land on the Inner region spaces between the Plain of peril and the Valley of fire. Each card would be an alternative challenge to the standard inner region space.

Not trying to sound rude, but I don't think they're great expansion (perhaps except the last one).

The Desert. FFG will never create an expansion just for two spaces, perhaps three. The Firelands adds three Deserts, but still I don't think FFG would ever consider a PoD for just a few spaces that as well may never be available.

The Shadow. It requires the Reaper. I think it is very unlikely for FFG to release a PoD that would require one of already existing expansions. So far they never created an expansion that would rely on another. Look at the City - they even gave a few extra and super USELESS Neutral alignment cards despite the fact that one expansion earlier they also added them.

The Wizard. I don't like its name. If You read the lore of the Talisman, You could find that the Wizard actually was a good person. Sinister only to his enemies. I cannot see even a single reason why would the people of Talisman need to experience his wrath. As for the expansion itself, it already exist in Poland as a homebrew expansion since at least 15+ years. I think it is the most famous and the most liked homebrew expansion here. But the cards really need to be hurting. Ever more than the Nether creatures themselves. It's called "Przedpola Piekieł" ("Foregrounds of the Hell").

Some more PODs would be cool. If we are going with the Neither Deck format: 3 endings + 36 Cards to keep em nice n' inexpensive... Hmmm...

I suppose the first question is if we want another deck on the table. The Neither deck is smart in design but a lot of games it sees no play, now that my tables does hidden format.

I want to say enhancing the shop deck would be my first choice. But with what? We have the city for bigger and badder things to spend Gold on.

Two ideas bounced around are the sea and the vampire.

The sea really deserves and IMHO is the best bet and maybe even the last option for a final big box, granted the Woodlands is not the last one we get.

The vampire is not represented as an NPC miniature and maybe he should be...but do you want to move a third NPC around on a roll of 1? Also I'm not sure if miniatures are in the range of Print on Demand.

This one just popped in my head but it would make PVP more random, fun and diverse: How about a POD called...

Talisman: The Duel

3 Alternate Endings that revolve around and require the Duel deck.

36 Duel cards that do not require the alternate endings.

The concept is simple: You land on an opponent, instead of initiating Battle or Psychic combat, You may challenge your opponent to a duel. Draw a duel card off the top of the deck, follow the rules on the card to resolve the duel and the consequences.

Cards like "Throw Down the Gauntlet" This duel must be a Battle, Winner must take two Lives from the opponent.

To "Duel to the Death" (1 copy 1 in 36 chance, Same as Reaper odds with fate Reroll -at least until your duel deck shrinks.) Resolve your Battle or Psychic Combat normally, the loser dies.

To the more bizarre "Destiny Clash." Both opponents roll Craft, but may spend X amount of Fate tokens to add 1 to the result of the roll. The winner takes the total amount of Fate both participants had when the duel was initiated.

Or the very funny "Duel by Proxy" Resolve your Bttle or Psychic Combat normally, but choose an opponent to take your place, switch places on the board with them. -Could you imagine this, Your Assassin lands on the Troll, you decide to pull from the duel deck and next thing you know The Priest and the Monk are duking it out over the honor of a Troll and an Assassin ;)

I'm sure the guys at FFG could be much more creative with the concept of 36 cards than me.

But the more I think about this, the more I know my table would LOVE a duel deck. We spend ALOT of time messing with each other.
