Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy of the rulebook yet, so maybe one of you could tell me. Is there a way to transfer characters from EotE over to AoR? If so, how does it work?
Character Transfer
GM has to decide if they keep Obligation or not.
GM decides how much Duty they get.
That's it. ![]()
Isn't there a thread here dealing with Duty including a variation so you could have it set as Imperial Duty?
Has anyone dealt with the possibility of characters having both Obligation and Duty?
For example Han & Chewie from the Original Trilogy?
so then how does it work with specializations? if I have the three maximum specializations and our campaign evolves into working with the Rebels (or Empire, I guess), what then? do I not get a new specialization for being a rebel, or did they up the number of specializations available?'
another example would be for the force users. would they be able to buy the emergent tree and eventually upping their force rating to 3? or do they get screwed because they wanted to get the third tree when they played EotE?
There's no maximum - buy as many as you like! ![]()
(I think that was dropped towards the end of the EotE Beta. EDIT: confirmed by kaosoe - ta!)
Each additional Spec costs 10 x [number of Specialisations you will have] (+10, if it's a non-Career Specialisation - regardless of which line you bought it from).
E.g. I'm a Bounty Hunter: Assassin.
To become a Gadgeteer, too, I spend 20 xp (2nd Spec)
To then become a Survivalist, I spend another 30 xp (3rd Spec)
To then become an Sharpshooter (Soldier Career), I spend another 50 xp (4th Spec + non-Career)
One way of looking at Luke is as a Fringer (EotE) who became an Ace (AoR) who became a FS Emergent (AoR) who became a Jedi (F&D).
The only limitation I can think of is when a Spec has an identical name in two careers, it is the same Specialisation, so you can't take it twice (e.g. a Smuggler who's taken the Pilot spec cannot take it again just because it's also in Ace).
Edited by Col. OrangeThe only time a player was limited to the number of specializations was in the Edge of the Empire beta, but that was quickly thrown out for the system Col. Orange mentioned above.
oh wow. I was going this whole time thinking that you could only have 3 specs. lol. sorry guys.
No problem. Welcome to the forum!

You turn the lights down low and wave your hands over your head yelling 'booga booga!' and it's done, they are transferred over. A very easy incantation actually.....

Are you sure that one wasn't "Oogity-Boogity"? I thought "Booga Booga" was for summoning Twi'lek dancers...

A smile and fistful of credits draws in the dancers......
If I am a Smuggler, and I decide I'm tired of having to deal with the Empire and join the Rebels, I don't have to become a soldier. I'm a Smuggler, and will use the skills of one. Whereas a character created via AoR will have a bunch of military based missions, I would be sent to deal with the underworld, to smuggle supplies to a hidden outpost, to be a Smuggler!
It's like if you're playing a Doctor; just because your doctor joined crime, doesn't mean he starts shooting guns, flying ships, and looking tough. He starts patching up his criminal pals, starts working on illegal medical operations, starts being a Doctor!
Hope I was help.
Yeah, the characters from EotE and AoR can function in the same group without any problems. I'm currently playing in a game that's making use of characters from both books, and there's been zero issues with cross-compatibility between the two.
The only thing to bear in mind is that the AoR careers have more of a military focus to them, with many providing at least Ranged (Light) in terms of combat skills as a career skill, as well as many of AoR's specializations again having a bit more of a military theme to them.
