Anti Phantom stressers

By Forensicus, in X-Wing

So after a helluva "wake up call" game with my 2014 Regionals winning list (no Wave 4 allowed)against a friends Wave 4 heavy Whisper/Defender/Turr list I've found that a change of gear/tactics is much needed. His Whisper had VI so it was PS9 and was extremely hard to pin/hit during the game.

So I've toyed up this little squad of stressers that shpuld be able to lock it down nicely:

http://tinyurl.com/BEX-Stress

Corran Horn — E-Wing 35 points

At the start of the End phase, you may perform

one attack. You cannot attack during the next round.

  • Veteran Instincts (+1 point)
  • R7-T1 (+3 points)

Action: Choose an enemy ship at Range 1-2.

If you are inside that ship's firing arc, you may

acquire a target lock on that ship. Then, you

may perform a free boost action.

Wes Janson — X-Wing 29 points

After you perform an attack, you may remove

1 focus, evade, or blue target lock token from the defender.

  • Veteran Instincts (+1 point)
  • R3-A2 (+2 point)

When you declare the target of your attack, if the defender

is inside your firing arc, you may receive 1 stress token to

cause the defender to receive 1 stress token.

Blue Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 22 points

  • Fire-Control System (+2 points)

After you perform an attack, you may acquire

a target lock on the defender.

  • Ion Cannon (+3 points)
  • Flechette Torpedoes (+2 points)

After you perform this attack, the defender receives

1 stress token if its hull value is "4" or lower.

The idea is to have Wes shooting first and hopefully have Corran at very close range (and outside the arc) of the phantom(s): R3-A2 on Wes ensures that the target receives a stress (shutting down any cloaking tricks from Adv. Cloak Devices) and Corran should be in a good position with a TL and can possibly do another attack at the phantom(s) if needed at the End Phase.

If all this fails the Blue Sq Flechette launcher should fire the Ion Cannon and gain a TL, and thus be able to launch the Flechette in the newxt round with a Focus alongside while Corran recuberates and Wes re aligns (if alive at that time)

What ya think?

Phantoms behind you.

They don't call him Biggs for nothing!

Looks good against Phantoms.. you might be in trouble against anything else however.

Looks good if you are just dealing with a Phantom.

The part I find hards is dealing with whatever else is with it.

I mean you have three ships that are being designed to go after a single ship.

Looks good on paper, but then you also have his buddies coming after you.

A smart Phantom player will put the other forces in your face, hoping they will make a better target over the phantom at a far range.

Then you have to keep this three ships alive long enough to get the phantom.

I may give it a try down the road,

From playing with and against Phantoms I see a common builds with them.

Not always but I see a lot with with either mini swarms /shuttle w/ tie or bounty hunter with ties.

Either way that is a lot of fire power and ships for three rebel ships

So if you send the three of them at the Phantom you'll have something like I mentioned above coming at you which will really hurt.

If you go after his squad mates instead then the Phantom will position itself behind you.

It's not unbeatable, but now that I've been flying against it, it really is a ***** to fly against.

I can now understand how my buddies felt after I got my Phantom after the Imdaar alpha event.

Is it over powered? I will say no, but it's close.

My buddies feel it is over powered. Maybe it is. But I won't go add far too say it's broken.

The best counter to it is turret ships, and high point score. However the high point score ships can't move like echo and even that doesn't guarantee you a win.

Whenever I lost with a Phantom the majority of times (which are very few ) it was mostly due to pilot error.

So far out of all our games with a Phantom its win / lose ratio is ridiculous.

I think the rebel aces and wave 5 ships will turn it around.

Mara jade, and two new ships both with turrets I think will change the meta even more. For more I expect to see a lot of Phantoms. At least in my area.

What I like about the Phantom is how my buddies and I try to come up with ways to kill it, and everyone here as well.

It really does change the game up.

I have yet tried it against a biggs walk the dogs, or a mini swarm.

Has anyone used one of those builds against a Phantom?
