Corruption Points

By Grand Trader Chode, in Rogue Trader

When, How often, And how much should Corruption be given out in RT?

Errr, every time you remake a thread?

Seriously though, Page 299 of the core book.

Whenever the players do something to earn it... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Seriously, any time the players got to poking around with the warp, they'd earn a d5 or d10 of corruption for their trouble. The one visit they took to Oblivion (the innermost - and most messed up - of the three worlds in the Processional) saw the players all gain double digit increases. That actually seemed to teach a little caution.

well the reason I ask is that Rogue Trader seems to have a softer and lighter tone to me compared to Dark Heresy.

That's because in DH you are trying to root out the heresy, and destroy it, while in RT, you are trying to track down the heresy, and make it into a trading partner. ;) A little bit less direct exposure to Wrongness, and by people already more enured to it, due to all their gallivanting with terrors, already, in pursuit of the mighty Throne.

This also becomes a thematic issue. I intentionally play it light with corruption and insanity in my current game, because I'm aiming for a more heroic story, and corrupting influences are not a major part of that story. That being said, "dangerous to know" is a part of my theme, so I require any NPC gaining a Forbidden Lore to gain d5-1 insanity each time they gain a forbidden lore they weren't born in. (Admech for tech-priests, warp for psychiers etc.) Note I use the "unfated only have 10 insanity allowed" rule.

So basically, give as much corruption as you want, so long as it feels consistent, but consider the way it effects your game and/or its feel.

Hi All,

And what about the consequences of corruption ?. Assuming that something went wrong and you got enough corruption points to throw for mutation (this is 30 points).Isn't that a dead sentence for that kind of character ?.The mutation mostly are really noticeable and even you own party seeing you first mutation from corruption points should consider typical elimination. Maybe I am understanding this wrongly and the player can still play even though he got a mutated

This is the point where your players start lopping off parts and replacing them with augmetics, or wearing outlandish costumes to disguise them.

Yes, in the Imperium a mutation is a death sentence, but you aren't in the Imperium (probably), so your player will have to get creative, roll a backup for public negotiations, or throw himself into the plasma drive like a good Imperial citizen.
