Echo Barrel Roll

By Tuls, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When Echo decloaks you use a 2 bank curve. Does the barrel roll need to curve forward? Or can you curve it backward also. I thought I remember seeing someone graph out the various options but can't find it. Thanks for helping a rookie,

It can go either direction, forward or back.

Thanks for the link. So looking at that if he chooses back then you start the roll on the back of your base instead of the front like a normal barrel roll.

You can start and end a barrel roll with the template anywhere along the side of the base, as long as no part of the template goes beyond the front or back edge of the base.

And that is true of any barrel roll, not just echo's (or Lorrir's). A normal BR can be used to scootch the ship slightly forward or slightly backward.

Zackly.

Now I'm going to chime in and remind folks that Echo's barrel roll action is a "normal" one, using the [straight] 1 template like everybody else (except Lorrir). It is only during Decloaking that Echo gets to use the [bank] 2 template. Perhaps this is obvious to most, but I get a general sense from this and a couple of other threads that there might be confusion about Echo being able to use the [bank] 2 template for the barrel roll action as well as Decloaking. Not so.

Thanks for help. Didn't realize that any barrel roll could use any part of the side. Guess that's what I get for seeing the picture and not reading the rule all the way through.
