Turrets are Easy Mode?

By KineticOperator, in X-Wing

There clearly is an issue with falcons being too prominent in lists you only have to look at top placement from tournaments, when you have a bunch of great ships you cant fly because superfalcon only has one decent imperial counter that needs looking at.

There are lots of decent Imperial counters:

  • Kath + Rebel Captive
  • Brath + Predator + HLC
  • Jonus with wingmen carrying Cluster Missiles and/or Proton Torpedoes
  • Standard swarm (Howlrunner + 6 TIEs)
  • Interceptor swarm (Howlrunner + 4 TIEs + 2 Alpha Squadron Pilots)
  • Bomber swarm with Seismic Charges
  • Phantom + mini-swarm
andand

And that's with thirty seconds of thinking. The problem isn't countering the Falcon, it's countering the Falcon and the Phantom and the most typical swarms.

Yeah great for rebels what about the imp players?

*Ahem*

"Excuse me, only one good Imperial counter?"

Actually, again, Rexler + HLC + Predator is pretty good at all of that.

I have looked long and hard at Rexler and the combo hlc/predator seems to good to pass up on.

But after the 47 whopping points spent how to chase a PS9 Phantom/Interceptor? Or even a PS8 E-wing moving after you and thus reacting?

Still looking for a build with a Defender I am happy with in a 100 pt list. :(

You set up the fight so it is at long range. With your HCL and a white 4k turn you can put distance between yourself and it and set up a wide shot.

Or, you bring Soontir as his buddy.

You play it by using short banks in order not to get too close. The farther away the Phantom is, the harder it is to escape your cone (at its widest point) and still have a shot. Since you're a) getting 4 attack dice either way and b) denying your opponent their Range 3 bonus evade die while still getting it yourself, this tactic defies conventional X-Wing wisdom of gaming for a Range 1 shot.
