I have a question we have up for discussion. Can you unequip/sell a cursed item? Would a merchant buy one? How do you address this?

Cursed items, like Staff of the Grave, can be un-equipped and requipped at will.

However , each time you requip it you get another curse token. Additionally, when you die you immediately have to decide if you are going to reequip the item or you lose it I believe.

You can also freely sell them in Town or at the Market in RtL for the same value as its treasure level.

I generally find it a good practice to keep cursed items un-equipped until a point when it seems worth it (e.g.-staff of the grave when you are about to make a killing blow on that undying sorceror leader of a dungeon level), and then leaving it equipped until the hero dies, at which point I go back to something weaker. Of course, if it's your only weapon, I guess you just have to live with having a higher conquest value...a cursed existence.

It has always seemed to me that you wouldn't be able to sell it. Why would a merchant buy a cursed item? And in most RPG's that feature cursed items you can't sell them, or they sell for nothing

Very true, but in Descent as long as its got a gold value on the bottom of the card you can sell it. Merchants in Descent don't care. I've bought the Staff of the Grave before from the Tamilir Market playing RtL.

Having checked the rules, it does appear we have been doing it wrong with the unequip of cursed items. That sucks. Jaes is worth 5 CP until we want to stop having the staff of the grave..or we want to house that one.

As far as the shop, I would agree that at least for RTL that cursed stuff could be sold (assuming it never got equipped). Given that a merchant might be selling it for 250, I can't see why he wouldn't buy it for 125.

You can unequip it and sell it. I played for a while under the assumption that you couldn't unequip Cursed items, but I was wrong. We sold the Staff of the Grave once in RtL, regretted it severly when we ran into the Silver level Master Ogre who made his Undying roll 5 times in a row.
