Imperial for 21 points?

Here's a "what if" for you...

You are building an Imperial squadron and have 21 points left to add a ship w/ upgrades, if you include any. What do you bring?

Mauler Mithel with Outmaneuver. he moves fairly late, and Outmaneuver gives him additional incentive to barrel roll when in close range. 1 Point left for Initiative, VI on someone or Munitions Failsafe, depending on the list.

Howlrunner with PTL or a naked shuttle for a big blocking tank.

Some options:

Black Squadron Pilot - TIE Fighter
+ Predator

- 4 pts to spend elsewhere

Howlrunner - TIE Fighter

+ Stealth Device (or Hull Upgrade)

Mauler Mithel - TIE Fighter

+ Shield Upgrade

Alpha Squadron Pilot - TIE Interceptor

+ Stealth Device (or Hull Upgrade)

Saber Squadron Pilot - TIE Interceptor

Omicron Group Pilot - Lambda Class Shuttle

Tempest Squadron Pilot - TIE Advanced... if you REALLY want to! (I guess it might be ok if you already have a massive alpha strike and need something for the end game?)

It all depends on what you are matching it with.

What's the rest of my squadron look like? For 21 point you get Howlrunner (18 points) with three points of upgrades for survivability if desired. I guess it can also get you a naked Shuttle or a Sabre Squadron Pilot.

If you're looking at a 21 point ship everything else really does matter.

Dark Curse and a couple of extra upgrades to other ships.

Because Dark Curse doesn't need any stinking upgrades

I really hate the 19-23 point range for Imperials, I rarely find a single ship within that cost range that really feels worth it. Of course it depends on your build, but in general if I have that many points left I go back and try to adjust the rest of the squad instead

Would be great, wouldn't it, if the Advanced were viable? I feel the same way about that 21-23 range, and it would be nice if there were a ship with a generic in that sweet spot.

It's actually a pretty solid option for just about any list.

Thanks guys! I looked up most of the options suggested here and ended up with Mauler!

I am working on a 150 pt escalation list and I have four Interceptors and Mauler. It looks solid! I'll start with Soontir and Mauler add Carnor, then Turr and complete the list with Tetran! I like HIGH PS! 15 attack, 15 hull, four shields, lots of ways to relieve stress and maneuver! Should be fun!

I also like Backstabber with an Engine Upgrade. Turns him into a PS6 Interceptor when outside of their firing arc.

I'm not a big fan of naked Sabers. They need an EPT to justify their cost, and none of the 1-2 point ones really floats my boat as a reason to make a 3-point PS bid.

Alpha + Hull is close, but Interceptors can be so damned inconsistent that I tend to skip them in my tourney build these days unless I'm running a swarm. The Advanced would really be the ship I want--great durability, flexible action bar, etc.--if only it didn't have that little offense problem.

Well, hopefully proton rockets will go some way to giving it the punch it needs, at least at range 1.

Alpha Squadron Pliot with Stealth Device, I see one TIE Interceptor with one piont left of life destroy one Wedge, so I think the manouverality of the ship is the best, greettings.
