By patox, in X-Wing

From a cursory glance, the X-Wing forums is by far the most active and most read on Fantasy Flight Games Community Forum. But the Deathwatch Card game has even more sub forums than X-Wing.

Moderators, can we please get some added organization in this group? Especially, so we can help avoid the duplicate thread discussions?

nope

Yeah, but 156,179 of those replies are all from Cubanboy waiting for the next wave release.

Suggestions for additional sub forums:

Customs

Resources

Future releases

Are there even moderators? FFG should just appoint a volunteer moderator.

They're rarer than unicorns around here, but can be found if you know how. Anyone notice how there was a thread about Z-95s conspicuously missing from the forum this morning? :D

I would like a forum a little less obsessed with efficiency.

We know vader is meh for tournament play.

More chatter about how vader completely dominates in a 6 man squad, fully upgraded, with interceptor and fighters flanking him.

More threads about excellent combinations of rebel and imperial lists. Does a tie swarm work well with an x wing leading the charge?

I've not seen the author of that thread either since this morning.................fingers crossed.

The Moderators are silent assassins indeed!

Can't lie, I think that whole thing was blown out of proportion from all sides.

None of the moderators that are active appear to concern themselves with the game. Other games that are far less active have much more intelligently laid out sub forums but the X-Wing ones which are the most active receive no attention whatsoever.

That troll thread?

Yup.

Eh.

Suggestion for this site (idea from HCRealms):

Have a section for "unit-specific discussions." Each ship gets a thread in that section.

The first post in each thread should contain the stats of the featured ship. Afterwards, people can post their thoughts about a particular ship. This makes it easier for people to find information on a particular ship. It also keeps a historical record of what people thought about certain ships at certain parts of time. Also, it helps prevent the main forum from having 5-10 threads simultaneously, all on the Z-95 headhunter or TIE Phantom (though there's nothing wrong with that, since the "unit reviews" section is non-existent right now).

ROFL, aforesaid troll just sent me a personal message:

"Just thought you should know...

...not a single warning or ban.

Get mad. Stay mad."

And me without my popcorn.

These said mods probable have two accounts....

I think it should also be noted that there are 1,147,858 replies in the entire Fantasy Flight Forums.

I'm no mathlete, but I think that means that 1 out of every 8 replies on these entire forums is about X-Wing.

That's Fantasy Flight's entire library of games.

1 out of 8 are about X-Wing.

We need better organization!

Subforums are awful. They reduce total discussion.

It's good to be able to look at one forum and see most of the discussion on X-Wing. It lets readers know what the hot topics of the day are without hunting through various subforums and aggregating them in their heads. It also increases the chances that readers will chime in on something because they see a wider range of topics with as little effort as possible.

Three subforums are already too many for X-Wing. Having one for organized play is fine. But the rules forum is redundant — people often ask rules questions in the general forum, and I never look in the rules forum to find people I could help. I just answer things that I see in the general forum. I'd rather battle reports not exist, either. I never go in there, and I frequently see people post in the general forum about how their games went, anyway, so we may as well get rid of the subforum.

Subforums are awesome. They make it much easier to find discussions you care about and ignore the ones you don't.

It is far too easy on these forums for a hot topic to drop off the bottom of the page and get lost.

Now, a balance does need to be struck. Too many sub forums and it looks like a board has no activity, too few and it becomes too crowded and busy, with far too low a signal to noise ratio for people to actually find what they are looking for.

On top of sub forums, there are maybe a half dozen common topics that should really have stickied posts somewhere.

For a second I thought The posts above were arguing with themself

Point. Counter point.
