Has anyone seen or come up with a version for 5 Heroes & 1 Overlord? More & more of my friends are loving this game, so I was wondering if this was ever thought of before....any forums or links would be greatly appreciated!!
5 Hero Play?
The overlord doesn't have the monsters to work with 5 heros, so you would have to get really inventive with adding extra monster groups and mutating all the quests. Basically it would be a house rule nightmare.
However I can personally say from experience playing with 2 overlords is SUPER fun and completely doable. If you have a group of 6 try having 2 people play the overlord position as a team, It's pretty menacing what 2 evil minds can do when working together. I've done this and one time me and my overlord buddy left the room to go talk about "something" then came back with evil smiles on our faces and destroyed the poor weak little heroes. Super fun.
I saw someone went crazy and figured out a way (whether it works smoothly or not I don't know) to have an auto-OL. It looked well thought out & interesting to me. I was hoping maybe that same guy or someone that was inspired by him, already went through the arduous process of figuring out a way to do 5 Heroes. Either an increase of monster HP's, changing/adding monster defense dice, or even adding another monster group altogether.
If you are interested in making something that let's 5 heroes in, you might consider going here and experimenting:

It's up to you to be inventive and create maps that make sense for 5 heroes (wider, open spaces), but it's a good way to create something that works well but still maintains enough of the rules to not completely explode the game.
also remember that with any board game, it's just a bunch of pieces of plastic and cardboard that only have meaning when associated with a certain set of rules. If you need to make something change because you want 5 heroes, then go crazy. As long as all 6 players agree and are having fun, there is no board game police that are going to bust into your house if you add an extra hero and an extra monster group to compensate. Just know that it will go a little off kilter and you may get some interesting interactions.

This is the way we play it as well, the role of the overlord can be a lonely one so having a buddy to strategize with is alot of fun!
