HLC & Etahn A'baht

By mlbrogueone, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I was looking into the possibility of using Etahn A'baht with B-wings, especially Ten Numb.

The HLC card says to "immediately" change all crits to regular hits.

Etahn lets the attacker change one of his hits to crit.

The rule book on page 11 says "... if a player wants to resolve multiple modifying abilities, he resolves them in the order of his choosing..."

So my interpretation of this is that if I'm using Ten Numb with a HLC and Etahn has the target in fire arc I can change one HLC hit to a crit. First because the language of the HLC card says to do that modification "immediately" which implies that it comes before Etahn's ability. Second, the rule book says multiple abilities can modify a roll in the order of my choosing.

Is there anything else in the rules book or errata that says otherwise? I know dice can't be rerolled more than once, but I thought they could potentially be modified multiple times. Like if a defender uses sensor jammer to change hit to a focus and then an attacker uses a focus token to change that focus back into a hit.

The HLC changes all crits to hits immediately after the initial dice roll, in Step 2 - it's not a normal dice modification ability, which occur in Step 3.

So any abilities which change hits to crits (including Etahn, but also others like Mercenary Copilot) work just fine. Any rerolls which result in crits get to keep those crits as well - the HLC text doesn't trigger on rerolls, because they're considered dice modifications and not a roll.
