Shopping

By cranbrookdave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

We found that shopping with all the new found loot at the end of an adventure/session can be very tedious - having to roll for rarity, etc. so we use the following house rule:

each market or planet has rarity value

each player can purchase items of that rarity or less without problems (max 2-3 of each item type) - just shopping around the market

if item is restricted or higher rarity value, then each player can roll for 1 such item per person per market per session.

this then keeps tedious rarity rolls to a minimum, and also restricts the amount of restricted items the party is using. Trader, I'm looking at you :-)

of course if the shopping trip is part of the adventure plot, then GM can insist on rolls as normal.

Be interested if anyone else has a similar house rule, to keep the fun rolling along.

My GM has us develop Isotech as a permanent contact from BtR. If we can get to them we can just buy whatever with his permission sans rolling as more of a post session admin function. If we are out and about the galaxy I would imagine it is more session related and would require rolls for locating and pricing.

When all you guys are buying illegal stuff, does your GM have a threshold that says "The cops must have been informed someone's asking after this by now"?

Maybe when Rarity + Threat generated > 6?

Last time we bought restricted stuff we had already shot the cops down, so there was no one with steenking batjees to bother us.......

Yeah, for my games unrestricted mundane items with no overtly nefarious use can generally be purchased at listed value without rolling unless there's a reason for otherwise.

Stimpacks, breathmasks, rations, heavy clothing, tents, backpacks, ect. can all be acquired in most settlements, villages, towns, and cities. Trying to get those in an Ewok village... a little more difficult....

I tend to rule that anything listed in the Core rules with a rarity of 6 or lower or from the add-on books with 4-5 or lower is automatically available in most places. Anything rarer than that they need to make Negotiation or Streetwise checks for, as appropriate. And since my campaign is set to one Outer Rim sector I also have local rarity modifiers for each separate planet.

That being said, one of my players have Negotiation 1 and Presence 5, so they tend to find most of the stuff they want sooner or later anyway.
