A little help with my house rules

By Yepesnopes, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all,

1) In my game I change the wookies to Brawn 4 Agility 2 Intelligence 2 Cunning 1 Willpower 1 Presence 2. And I kept the special abilities.

2) In my games, Soak is something independent from Brawn, it is a fixed value like defence. Therefore Brawn is not that important as in the RAW.

My question is, knowing how I deal with soak in my games, shall I keep the Starting Experience points for the Wookies at 90 xp, like for example the Dralls which also start with a 4 (in intelligence) and two 1s (Agility and Brawn), or shall I lower it to 80xp like the Selonians which have two 3s (Agility and Willpower) and two 1s (Cunning and Presence) in their initial characteristics.

Opinions?

Cheers,

Yepes

I'd keep them as is. Sure Brawn's now less important in your games, but I suspect that its cost is now in-line with the other stats.

Interesting that you lowered Cunning. I personally lowered Presence instead. I guess I see Wookiees being better at Perception and Survival (maybe even Deception, Skulduggery, and Streetwise) than at Charm, Cool, Leadership, and Negotiation.

Also, I dropped Wookiee Rage and replaced it with a free rank of Feral Strength. Same general effect with less screwy rules.

With Brawn being a natural combat-oriented characteristic, I would drop that down to 80.

That depends a lot on the kind of game being run and suggests that combat is more important than other aspects of the game. Would you give the Wookiee more XP in a game where combat is rare?

The problem I mainly have is that I have the impression that I "umbalance" the Wookie vs the Trandoshan.

The value of the Trandoshan is in the regeneration. How often does rapid natural healing help in your games? Do your players ever take critical hits that take limbs?

Good point. I don't disagree with you, my only point is not every characteristic is weighted equally. The in-game worth of a 4 in intellect is not the same as the in-game worth of a 4 in brawn.

But as you said, it largely depends on the type of game being run so I concede that this is all conjecture and will agree to disagree on the matter.

Since Brawn is not that inportant in my games because it does not determine soak, after checking all the official races which have been published, I think I will raise the XP of those with Brawn 3 (Aqualish and Trandoshan so far) which have 90 XPs to 100 XPs, and then leave the Wookie with 90XPs and 4 2 2 2 1 1. Indeed as HappyDaze pointed out, it makes more sense to lower Presence to 1 rather than Cunning.

Thanks for the imputs

FFG already have a big guy tax, on the +brawn races. (not sure why agility is hugely better)

And with brawn houseruled been less effective I don't think you'd need to penalise them further.
