Will there be a "Bomber Aces" Pack?
Advance bombers and bomber upgrades
I'm not sure what to make of this - Are you looking to see if we think there will be, or are you actually looking for a real answer?
No one on here will know (or if they do there is no way they will say so) so a real answer is out of the question.
As for whether I think there will be: Probably not.
Edited by CptnhalfbeardThank You, I just love bombers and was hoping for new pilots to play with or some really cool upgrades use for bombers. I guess I just have to wait and see!
Honestly, I could see most ships getting an Aces a treatment. If for no other reason to put simple repaints of ships, with some fresh new pilots. Some honestly need such treatment ( Like Advanced ) Others could just do with some more, additional love and some upgrades that are hard to come by for that faction. ( The way PTL was placed in Aces, for instance )
The ships are made, their movements set, their upgrade slots known, it is a simple ( more so then fresh concepts ) matter for them to put out some aces packs and we will all gobble them up.
Am I right ? I think I am based off how many Rebel aces are pre ordered, and Imperial Aces sold and awaited for.
I suggested Ship Upgrades, buy changing the up grade bar. For example an X-Wing that could Fire a missile, or a bomber that has a crew member. But I really hope so.
I agree that Aces will probably be made for most ships. The B-Wing sets a precedent with a title that adds a Crew slot, so I'm sure that's possible for other ships.
Personally, I hope that "weaker" ships get aces packs before stronger ones. I loved the TIE Interceptor Aces simply because I am in love with Interceptors, I like the A-Wing but am not as fond of the B-Wing - after all, the B-Wing seems plenty competitive already.
The neat thing about the whole upgrade system is that stealth buffs are possible, and are made by FFG as we speak. Proton Rockets slightly buff A-Wings and TIE Advanced (by being more useful to them than anybody else), Munitions Failsafe buffs all ordnance, that kind of thing.
Did I mention that I love FFG and this game?
Edited by hasloNone of us know, so it's up for us to make semi-intelligent speculation.
I wonder what the point of the Aces packs are in FFG's strategy. (Obviously to make money, but beyond that.) The Imperial Aces makes total sense to do it with Interceptors. For the rebels, however, I'm a little surprised. Thematically , most of the rebels' aces stuck with the X-Wing. The B-Wing and the A-Wing were mostly for the extras - the people who's faces we might have seen, just as they were heading towards death. So, I don't see the point of the Aces' packages being in order to bolster or incorporate more fully the Star Wars story.
In terms of fixing existing expansions , I don't think that Interceptors were broken. From what I have heard, they're wildly successful and people love them. I don't know what's wrong with the A-Wing and B-Wing, but the Chardaan Refit does seem to be a 'fix' for something amiss with the A-Wing. So, if they're going to fix something, why didn't they fix the Advanced?
(I'm perfectly fine with the Advanced not being fixed, by the way. There should be a reason they weren't mass produced in-universe, which I'm happy is reflected in the game.)
It might just have been a way to create more diversity without creating more models. I'm happy with that as well, because I'm afraid of them digging too deep into bottom of the EU barrel. (I don't mind the EU, but there are some questionable corners.)
For my own part, I yearn for the first reason - because I love Star Wars as a fictional universe. However, I do think there are some pieces of published material that are best forgotten. So, for that reason, I support the Aces packages for the third reason.
So, what are their alternatives?
I definitely like the Huge ships, but I don't think the bulk of the people playing XMG have much use for them, because (it seems to me) that most play the 6-asteroid-100pnt-death-matches. They can use some of the cards from those sets, but they don't have much use for the bulk of the material.
They can also dig deeper into the EU for new ships. I'd certainly like to see more non-military vessels like the Outrider, the Firespray and the YT, but they do seem to dilute the existing factions.
Alternatively, they can essentially put XMG on autopilot (reproducing the existing core and expansions), and introduce related games such as a capital-ships-scale game and/or a ground-based game, which might or might not somehow integrate with XMG.
In the end, I see the Aces packages as a way to keep production going without making fundamental changes to the game. That suggests to me that they're in a form of holding pattern, and don't really know where they want to take Star Wars miniatures gaming. That, or they're stalling until they can roll out what they are planning to do with the license (provided they get to keep it).
TL:DR : yeah, I have no idea.
Oh, right, the original question:
Bomber Aces would be cool! I really do enjoy the bomber, but I already have 4. If I get aces, then basically I'll be mothballing the bombers models I already have. One of them is already mothballed, because I tend to fly a BBBTT squad.

It's actually a modification that adds the slot.

Oups, thanks for the catch
