I like the ships to look good. Otherwise, I would be playing "Combat Ponies in Space" with my daughters instead of cajoling them into playing X-Wing.
That being said, I'd rather fly an ugly ship than a nice looking pony.

my friend plays dark eldar he painted his bikes up as my little pony characters, its a little worrying.
I enjoy the inform look of Imperial fascism. I'm not some traitorous rebel scum. That said, I do make choices based on appearance. I like the look of the shuttle so I use that more often than Firespray, as example.

I'm all about looks.
I don't care what cards come with the defender. It is EU and looks like a chud. Will probably never acquire it. I just want to see Original Trilogy on the board. Seeing the Ties fly in formation, 2 X-Wings booting along, etc. That is what brings me enjoyment.
I am more interested in FFG releasing a ground based game which utilises the current mechanics (with AT-ATs), or scenario sets (Death star run scenario with turrets) than the newly revealed Wave 5 ships.
essential
Fortunately there is not one single ship in the game that I don't like (even the HWK has grown on me) and the models/paint are good, which leaves me free to use any squad I want.

follow this link, but beware inside lies the dark side.
Physical attraction gets me interested. But its the personality that keeps me there. I love a ship that can make me laugh, have long in depth conversations with but that also has an adventurous side that likes to go hiking and camping.
Someone that knows how to have fun but that doesn't need to go out all the time.
Edited by NatarisYes, the looks matter to me.
Now, I can see how some people can run the graphics in their minds. Yet, some of the people who say they just like the game: How important is it to you that this is Star Wars? Could it just be any old token?
Personally speaking, I don't care what the ship looks like. I care about what it can do. If it's got a good dial and stats, and good high-PS skills, then it could be a flying pony for all I care. I want ships that can do what I want them to do, and if the model looks great then so much the better.
To me, the look of the ships is extremely important. Not only do I use them for the game, but some of them I like to put on display. They are that good. And since I put my ships on display, I try to avoid defective ships at all costs.
Displaying a misshapen, and / or poorly painted ship defeats the point of putting them on display.
Yes, the looks matter to me.

Star Wars got me in. Solid play(and a non random distribution method) kept me. But anything with Spaceships can get me in(although most don't due to overcomplexity, insane cost, etc.Yes, the looks matter to me.

Okay, my dear fellow R2 unit, you have me intrigued.
What about this game is a non-random distribution method? I do know what the phrase means in general, and I'm curious how you are framing it in this context.
Edited by Mikael HasselsteinLooks add to the fun factor a ton, and the game is primarily about fun.
For $15.00 a pop, I better get a fine-looking model.
I dunno If I would be attracted to the game without the nice ships, even if it was cheaper.

Unless you're taking a ship to McDonalds, $15 is still a pretty cheap date. I'll splurge on movies and popcorn for a solid 6, provided there's a chance of going a few rounds afterward. Only dime pieces get the full steak house experience.
I started out collecting the minis because they looked cool and were Star Wars. I didn't start actually playing the game until late in Wave 3. So I'd say the aesthetics were pretty important in my decision.
Edited by Rogue37I tell my wife looks aren't everything, but I'm telling you all they really!
A sweet looking ship with a sexy dial that can do all kinds of twists and turns...I'll pay extra for that! And those cheaper ships mean I can get more bang for my buck and when I don't want my wife getting suspicious about where all that money is going...
The looks of the two factions helped me decide which to focus on; I like the angles of the imperial ships, they look sinister and threatening - what a fighter should look like. Also, being English I thematically have to be the bad guy
Wait... you just said you like the imperials and then go on to say you have to be the bad guy?!?!? So confusing. Must be lost in translation.
Even if we consider ourselves the good guys we are viewed as the bad guys. It breaks my heart or would if i had one.
For me i can deal with a less than perfect mini as im old enough to remember the godawful things we used to have to play 1st edition Dungeons and Dragons with. But given a choice i will definitely go for a better miniature. As for ship aesthetics i dont like playing with an ugly or pointlessly gimmicky (Firespray and B Wing i mean you....though i know im in the minority so dont bite my head off *L*) ship design

I pretend I forgot my wallet and get the ship to pay for everything.
