How important are looks to you?

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

Personally speaking, I don't care what the ship looks like. I care about what it can do. If it's got a good dial and stats, and good high-PS skills, then it could be a flying pony for all I care. I want ships that can do what I want them to do, and if the model looks great then so much the better.

I would like for the model itself to be of good quality, which is what's keeping me away from Attack Wing, but past that I'm like you; I'll fly just about anything if it gets the job done.

This is not an abstract game, I need the model to look good. But it could be a piece of cardboard with decent art on it instead of the plastics we have.

I think the plastics are even better, but if it was super cheap with the cardboard i could have everything.

I don't much care. I played MTG fore years and that game is basically just text to me. The art, while cool, barely influences my thoughts on the game. Beyond that I'm a reader, writer, and RPG player. The appearance that matters is the much much prettier, more detailed one in my brain.

There needs to be chemistry, some kind of mutual interest, but I don't think I could ever have a relationship with a woman who wasn't remotely attractive...

... oh, we're talking about ships.

While stats, usages, and abilities matter the most overall, the game is called X Wing Miniatures Game. The miniatures matter. As of right now, so far, all the ships have been of pretty good quality and decent models. If this changes over the coming waves, I would not be so keen on buying everything that is released as I do now.

So far it hasn't been an issue, all the ships look good. However I am having misgivings about the Outrider. I liked it a lot, until I read the book.

Big guns. That's all that matters.

It's all about hips to waist aspect ratio for me. A pretty face and good personality doesn't hurt either.

I have to be able to wake up in the morning and not be horrified at how ugly it is next to me.

Yeah. In a weird way. I mean, my favorite is the HWK.

What that says 'bout me, I got no idea.

I didn't think I'd ever learn to appreciate the look of the Defender or bloodstripes on Interceptors, but I'm actually fond of both of them now. So appearance doesn't matter that much to me in this game. The entertainment value of having new play options far outweighs a ship's aesthetic appeal, or somehow contributes to it.

I love black and gray, circles, hexagons and triangles. So I play the Empire 90% of the time. My playstyle would most likely be better as Rebel, but I just can't switch.

So, yes looks matter to me, and I know how totally illogical my reasoning is.

Every time I see the Defender I simultaneously get great PC game flashbacks and I see the Glove and Boots guys talking about the slap chop, except all the vegetables are replaced with x-wings.

Also the Defender succeeds in mincing them, unlike the one G&B used.

I'm looking for synergy between my ships and abilities. The look of the ship does not matter, I fix them anyway with magnets and a little paint.

Aesthetics are half the game.

The looks of the two factions helped me decide which to focus on; I like the angles of the imperial ships, they look sinister and threatening - what a fighter should look like. Also, being English I thematically have to be the bad guy :)

Well, I like both. But really, I'm fine no matter what because I like the look of every Imperial ship out there. They all have great design in my opinion, they all really fit what they do. Even the TIE Bomber and Lambda Shuttle look cool.

Bad guy? What are you talking about? We stand for peace and stability in a tumultuous era.

has to have both.... have been playing various miniature wargames for years.and still have a few of my old star fleet battle miniatures some place.. they were not very detailed at all!!! have played other games that just used a cardboard token as an item.. a tank or aircraft. wasn't as cool over all.. kind of OT but they make some pretty cool aftermarket minis for axis and allies and it really adds to the game.. so looks do matter but so does game play. i mean I could use an authentic scale model of an F-15C for SPI Airwar and that game would STILL be tedious to play!!

The only "looks" I worry about are dice after I roll them

I don't think vanity is a Jedi trait

I used to love waking up and seeing them looking back at me. Now I hide them away in a black padded case under my desk.

The rules are just about okay, but the reason I'm playing is to move about my toy spaceships. :)

I was gonna start with a joke but I've been beaten to it.

My priority has always been game first aesthetics second, 40k has some really nice models but since 6th the game is a chore to play so I quit.

But looks do matter which is why I'd be reluctant to do attack wing the scale of model and paint jobs are bad.
