How Awesome is the Firespray-31

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

i have been using two with Ion Cannons and Tacticians in the last few weeks. the ability to ion and stress at the same time is amazing, and doesn't break the bank. i can fit a single sabre with PTL in the list as well, for flanking etc.

About problems with maneuvering the Firespray that were mentioned above: there has been a discussion in a german forum what the best way to fly a Firespray is. A lot of people claim that you should use k-turns to get back into action from time to time. I on the other hand claim that you won't need to do k-turns to be able to fire at something if you've mastered this ship. I also don't like to put secondary weapons on them since it negates the biggest advantage this type of ship has with it's rear firing arc.

Yes, the Firespray can be outmaneuvered pretty easily by Interceptors or Phantoms if you don't take care with it. A high pilot skill helps with that and the most important thing to practice for flying Firesprays is anticipating the opponent's moves and expectations. You have a lot of freedom of movement by being able to fire in two directions. I always try to think of the best spot I could move to in the next round and then see where else I can go that let's me keep something in one of the firing arcs while confusing or obstructing the opponent. Of course one then has to think about the best position for the opponent's ships too but that is something that should be done all of the time no matter which ships or pilots are on the table. If you have enough practice with that I claim that doing a k-turn as best choice of movement for a Firespray will be the exception in your matches.

Out 10 ? 11

The problem with HLCs is that you very rarely will get shoot them more than 1 time against the same target. If you have stuff to finish targets off, or you are using it with that in mind, it is fine tho.

I like a named pilot with expert handling and a proxmine. With 2 firing arcs and that large barrel roll, you can always catch someone and hammer them

Honestly, I don't like HLCs on Firesprays anymore. I spend at least as much time with my butt pointed at the enemy as I do my front arc, if not more. If you want to play with HLCs, try B-Wings or Defenders instead.

I've never tried putting HLC on a B-wing. Might nick that idea.

How do you fly a Firespray so that it avoids asteroids and is able to get enemy ships within its two arcs of fire?

Been having some issue with flying my Firespray - enemy ships could just slip into its blind spot and its large size makes it difficult to avoid asteroids.

Try Fett + Navigator + Outmaneuver. I run this with Stabber and Echo fully loaded and it is quite nasty. Kath + Marksmanship and Gunner is also really interesting... Ok you cancel the crits that I just gave you. Let's do the gunner if you cancel those crits again, another stress! ;-) Pretty good I am combining that with an Echo and Tactician, it can get nasty pretty fast! ;-)

I fly mine as Kath with a Gunner and a Seismic Charge, if points allow, is my typical build. 45 points of fun.

My first shot usually strips focus and evade tokens while dealing stress while the Gunner shot strips shields and hull.

I have contemplated putting anti-pursuit lasers on her and use her a a big blocker. Thoughts?

Its a great little ship that performs consistently well using even the basic pilot.

11/10 for sure get one, hell get two.

Plus, it comes with the Veteran Instincts elite pilot talent, which is awesome.

I used to think the rear firing arc was the way to go, and it still is for many moves, however if you never turn around, you often have to to bank around a corner at some point, and that is when the blind spots really rear their ugly heads.

Now if I'm able I try to do a frontal shot or 2, fly past and do a rear shot or 2, and then k turn, rather then keep firing from the rear.

Also in regards to HLC, using HLC with Predator on Kath or Boba is awesome and well worth it.

Been using

Kath + HLC + Engine + Swarm Tactics

Krassis + HLC + Engine + Merc Co Pilot

Played tonight and it was absolutely brutal, 2 games and 2 wins against a tooled up Chewie and 2 X-Wings and Fett + Mini swarm.

The Firespray is a nasty piece of work and certainly pulls its weight and more

Kath + EH + Rebel Captive + Flechette/seismic charge is a great start to any list.

I'm not a fan of the firespray but if I had to fly a large base ship it would be my pick

Krassis with tactician and ioncannon works pretty well

If you shooting out your ass arc, then sure thats 3 points your not using this round but that ion could have meant your target is now at range one in your rear.

I don't use HLC's on a firespray, 7 points is a lot if you can't guarantee its use most rounds.

B-wings and defenders can.

My firespray of choice is still Miss Scarlet.

Give her a barrel roll (EH) and she is a scary beast!!!

Just don't tell her I called her a beast :-P

I would happily trade my Cannon slot for an extra crew.

But as everyone's noted, it's a terrific ship. One of the most versatile ships available to the Empire. Ten HP with two agility is just mean.

....and to continue,

So awesome that a special kind of red has been renamed in it's honor.

So awesome that the Crayola 12 pack crayons are now 14 packs so the kids get three Firespray reds.

So awesome that three still isn't enough and Crayola stock has firesprayed...

...because now firesprayed is a verb for either something epic, or for what happened to your list when the other player flew one.
