Battle Report using X-Wing AI

And was blown up. Big time. Not the same Echo me thinks.

Also, I'm not sure why Echo is inherently feminine. Or Whisper. Both sound like badass ninjas/assassins more than "girl".

They aren't inherently female. That's my point.

And when you find another person named echo in the star wars universe, let me know.. Who cares if he got blown up. You are aware of what happened to Porkins, yes?

Trust me, its the same echo.

Maybe they ejected?

Could be. Could be women. Could be droids. It certainly shouldn't matter to you whether or not many of us consider them women.

I don't see how Echo from that TIE is the same Echo from Clone Troopers not even discounting the Clone Troopers apparent death. The age difference would make me wonder how that same Echo could be an elite pilot esp. considering the predesigned advanced aging the clones went through.

And for the record I like the videos and have no problems with what she was wearing during them. I think it is beyond silly to suggest she was trying to make it sexualized. This is the freakin' internet. If people wanted to see something sexualized I promise they can find something more substantial than someone showing off an X-wing game versus an AI program youtube clip.

Oh deary...how fast threads fold these days.

Back to the video, it did a good job of introducing the web app AI for X-Wing, which is interesting to me since I very often play against myself (and it's always complicated to forget your own moves). I will definitely try it myself when I get the chance, so thanks for sharing!

Two things occured to me after watching the video:

- Maybe putting fewer asteroids would be fairer for the AI (since it can't really plan for them).

- Turret type ships will probably fare better with AI (fewer angling problems)

One thing that I really liked about the video was that you highlighting whenever an upgrade card was used, which really helps the viewer realize how helpful (or not) they were. Nice job! :)

For anyone wanting a more in depth look at the website itself, here's another video.

Seriously though, you've got the marketing part down pat! ;)

Henceforth, Echo is now a female pilot in every game I play. Just cuz.

Thank you so much!

I will try the Falcon and even Firespray as AI and I'm quite happy to forgoe asteroids.

I know I missed the cards in a few spots but I'm glad that resonated with you. I'll be sure to continue that.

I also will have to inform my wife, who also plays this and is a regular gamer and member of my our local role playing groups, that we will have to retcon Echo as being a female. She also has pointed out the lack of enough female pilots in the game. And on the same subject I've seen the reactions she gets at our local gaming store on X-wing league nights and tourneys. Yes, guys, some girls really do love the same things we do. And they deserve our support to show other girls that they too should embrace their inner gamer.

Thank you so much!

You should try out the Firespray. The best pilot for the ship IMO is the only female pilot availble for the ship. My friends at our local X wing league give me grief about using her so much but I don't care. She kicks their ass which is all that matters.

Eh, Krassis probably has the better pilot ability, but no EPT. Personally, I think the regular Bounty Hunter is the best Firespray, which is kind of sad considering the ship's pedigree. If you want a strong female pilot, though, you need look no further than the venerable Howlrunner.

Needs tweaking, but here it is.

Howlrunner (18)

"Echo" (38)
TIE Phantom (30), Mara Jade (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Kath Scarlet (44)
Firespray-31 (38), Ion Cannon (3), Marksmanship (3)

I run this on tourney or league nights when I am feeling evil:

Kath Scarlet is just nasty to handle. For her point cost and ability I don't think there is a better pilot in the Firespray. Just my two coppers.

All the yesss.

Throwing my .02 in here on the name Echo. I assumed it 1st and foremost came from the card art. The art shows 1 ship and an after image(an echo) of the ship in a previous spot on it's flight path. Not hard to imagine the FFG devs had the cards being worked out and had the card art at hand when finalizing details for cards now and then.

As for using an AI for solo play, meh. Probably take longer to input everything then it's worth.

@Mei... I think the website mentions not giving the AI ships stress, as it doesn't figure in how to destress them after, so no need to worry about that aspect.

As for the batrep and video, great job and keep it up.

Your commentary is just fine, don't make too much of a fuss over it, you'll figure out things as you do more and find what you like about them. Overall I really do think you did a great job....

EDIT...

.ahhh.. nevermind about the stress deal.. I just looked at the updated version and saw it covers stressed moves now.. and other options...

Edited by oneway

I think they went with a sound theme for the pilot names. I love it. The art supports her name.

I thought the AI would be slow to setup as well but after a few turns it became faster than waiting for an opponent to think. I definitely recommend the AI.

Are you always winning against the AI? That would be rather boring

I use the AI myself from time to time.

If you don't have anyone to play against, it can be more fun then picking the moves for both sides. At least you can avoid the problem of knowing what the other side will do. But the AI can't really account for asteroids so you do have to help it out with that.

What I find the AI is most useful for is testing builds. Because then it's not really a question of fun but seeing if a build works or not. Having an opponent that always plays at the same level is pretty handy for that. It's not a matter of win/lose so much as it is the degree you win by.

Except, in space, no one can hear you...

Thank you for the positive feedback; I really appreciate it!

Mei,

How did you get the AI to run on your phone? I've tried once and had no luck. But admittedly I didn't try very hard.

Also was that 1.5 or 1.6 you were using?

+1 on this. I forwarded the link to the rest of my gaming group, but haven't had a chance to try it out myself.

Nice job, Mei :)

Very much appreciated!

Nevermind, I apparently had a old link, and was using a downloaded version rather then the web page itself. I see they're now up to 1.7 :)

Oh my goodness how did I forgot to include the link! I will add it from home. It is on the battle report video.

I think that's 1.4. I use Chrome on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3
