What are some good builds involving Soontir Fel?

Short answer: Any build where he has Push the Limit.

Slightly longer answer: a list with a big threat, like a Bounty Hunter or two and Fel (with Push the Limit) as a flanker.

Or perhaps a miniswarm of TIEs (with Howlrunner) and Fel (with Push the Limit) as a flanker.

How about this build (found it online):

43] Bounty Hunter

-heavy laser cannon

-recon specialist

[33] Soontir Fel

-push the limit

-stealth device

[12] Academy Pilot

[12] Academy Pilot

TOTAL: 100

Is that build any good?

It has been said before that anything works as long as Soontir has PTL. That is correct

But I'd tweak the list you posted above to:

-Soontir Fel + PTL (30)

-Bountyhunter + gunner (38)

-OGP + gunner, FCS & EA (32)

BH+OGP make a credible threat. (and then some) while Soontir does what he does best.

Step 1: Give him Push the Limit and possibly a stealth device and also a targeting computer with the royal guard title

Step 2: add any ships you want and the list will still be awesome

I'd give these a try:

Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Royal Guard TIE (0)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Gunner (5)
Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Darth Vader (3)
Total: 99
Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
"Dark Curse" (16)
"Backstabber" (16)
"Mauler Mithel" (17)
Total: 100
The first is a smaller build, but each ship is a pain to deal with, start Fel away fromt he others and let them pick who to engage or split their forces. The second is a standard mini swarm, fly them together and Fel up the side. You can dump the named pilots for more TIEs, but I like have the stronger pilots around for when Howlie goes down.

One that draws the focus off of him to increase his survivability. One that he can serve as a lone flanker. Shuttles are nice because opponents think 'easy pickings' while you get Soontir in behind and it's all over before they know it.

Soontir Fel + PtL + RGT + Shield Upgrade + Targeting Computer

Carnor Jax + Opportunist + RGT + Shield Upgrade + Hull Upgrade

Kir Kanos + Hull Upgrade

Soontir, Push, Hull upgrad plus anything else effective.

Soontir Fel w/ PtL is a must. He is also incredible with the ability to get Target Locks (since Push gives him free focus, TL + F is beastly). The Targeting computer is one of the best upgrades from the Imperial Aces (for him anyway).

Here's a tricksy list that includes him in a formation:

Fel w/ PtL, RG title, TC & SD (or HU)

Jax w/ PtL & SD (or HU)

Kagi w/ EU

Its 'tricksy' due to the interaction of Jax & Kagi's abilities (Jax shuts down enemy focus/evade, so the alternative is to use target locks - but enemies must lock Kagi if able instead of the interceptors). Stealth Devices were chosen for this reason, but you could easily go with Hull upgrades of course

Alternatively, I've considered (but not yet tried):

Fel w/ PtL & TC

Vessery w/ Outman & EU

Omnicron w/ ST-321 & Tactician

I'd switch out the Tactician for Weapons Engineer if you could find a way. It makes Vessery much more versatile and deadly, giving him two targets. Plus you're covered if they've got Expert Handling or Wes Janson.

He works extremely well as a flanker while being supported by a BH and Shuttle.

For Imdaar Alpha I came in fourth with Soontir Fel+PTL+Targeting Computer, Omicron Group Pilot+Darth Vader, and Howlrunner+Swarm Tactics and two Academy Pilots. I made a few piloting mistakes, which is what put me fourth, although I know that the guy that got third had the same record as me. But anyway, it's a fun squad to run. Soontir is a flanker, Howl and the APs are a mini-swarm, Vader in the OGP deals a bunch of damage and dies.

You make a good point, but I'm not sure its worth giving up something else to fit it in. Although I haven't got much experience with the Defender, one thing I've noticed is that it flies somewhat obviously, and its targets tend to be obvious, but often there is not a **** thing the opponent can do about it anyway. Having said that, Expert Handling & Wes are two cases that would gimp the list's effectiveness.

Fel, PTL, Targeting computer

howl, swarm tactics

4 x AP

Fel plus mini swarm is always nice :D

Baron's Focus

Fel+ ptl+ stealth/hull

BH+ recon

Backstabber

Nightbeast

Great list. Ignore any of the "three" pieces and the other 2 tear you up.

Solid list, all my favorite pilots. In mine I run the PTL & Hull plus TC an upgrade night to Dark Curse.

Push the Limit is a must for Soontir because you effectively get three actions out of him, and he reliably gets to use his ability. If you're not putting PTL on Soontir I'd highly recommend taking a different elite interceptor such as Carnor Jax, because you won't get the most out of Soontir's ability.

As for mods, all are good. Targeting Computer's actually great on him. You'll be surprised how much you find yourself with an action left over to Target Lock.

Mine originally had curse in it too. Stabber and NB are just so much more offensive and adding DC means targeting priority get easier for my opponent and I think that's a problem in this list. I actually like Turr and then a seismic on the BH over Fel but the OP wanted Fel lists.

List has been getting a lot of love again lately. I knew it was balanced and strong when I worked it out, didn't think it would have this much staying power. For a long time it was my measuring list... How much worse/better other lists do vs. or instead of it.

Interesting! I think I will try the Baron Focus build some time. What's the usual configuration of the ships in that build (i.e. who is on the sides and who is in the center)?

I usually put the BH on one edge, Fel on the other, and the two TIEs slightly off-center toward whatever side I see my opponent's squad lining up.

I played a list with Fel at the last regional and finish in the top 4 with only 2 losts (one being the semifinals, both being against a Han Shoots First)

-Soontir + TC + PTL

-OGP + HLC

-Backstabber

- 2x Academy Pilot

It's a great combo. The shuttle was always in a corner and depending on my opponent deploiement I'd put Soontir with the shuttle or most often at the opposite corner. The 3 Tie-F would be at the middle so they could go either way. My opponents always had to choose between Fel or the Shuttle, which gave me the opportunity to flank with the rest of the squad.
