Decloaking and using advance sensors on a asteroid.

By kyoojin, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Some friends and I were playing a game where we had a phantom ioned while cloaked and landed on a asteroid due to that. Next turn rolls around and the phantom is no longer ioned, can the phantom decloak while on the asteroid as long as the movement template does not overlap the asteroid? The rule card mentions you can not decloak if the template would overlap a obstacale or if the ship would overlap a obstacle. Thinking "would" being after/durning the result of the move rather than the current condition of the ship.

Almost the same thing on a different game is advance sensors. A B-wing ends up landing on a asteroid. Next turn comes up can the B-wing take thier action before moving off the asteroid?

Thank you for any clarification.

Yes to both questions.

You can barrel role of an asteroid if the template does not overlap the asteroid to the side you barrel role. The same foes for boost and decloak.

You could even land on an asteroid, lose yor action phase and then barrel role of in the same manner if you were granted a free action from say Lando.

Both decloaking and advanced sensors trigger before revealing your movement dial, so you should be able to use both when starting on an obstacle. The only restrictions would be if you can't perform your barrel roll or not quite a boost decloak move without the template touching part of the obstacle (or if your ship is ionized - no movement dial). The penalty of skipping your perform action step for landing on the obstacle was resolved the turn before, and has no further effect. It's also with noting that spending a cloak token is not considered an action, and can be done even while stressed.

Thank you for the quick replies. That answers some questions.

The FAQ states

If a ship equipped with Advanced Sensors does not have
a maneuver dial assigned to it (for example, because it
is ionized), it cannot use Advanced Sensors’ ability.
In addition, other similar instances where the effect mentioned "before revealing its maneuver dial" the ruling has been that you cannot use that effect, if you don't reveal a maneuver dial.
Now, the FAQ was written before cloaking was a part of the game, but I would assume that the intention is the same with cloak - you cannot decloak, if you don't have a dial to reveal.
I understand the question was more in regards to landing on an asteroid, but in your example, I would think that you cannot decloak, because you don't have a dial to reveal.

As I read his example, he was ioned, the ion movement put him on an asteroid, and then we're too the next turn and wanting to decloak or use advanced sensors to roll off of the asteroid before moving. If that's the case, definitely legal as long as the barrel roll template doesn't overlap the asteroid.

We did follow the rules on the ion token. We figured as we didnt have a movement dial to reveal then we could not full fill the conditions of being able to decloak or use advance sensors while ioned. I do appreciate the info and help. We are still learning the game and any info and clarifications are appreciated.

That Ion token had put the ship on a asteroid where the tring to move forward or to one side was across the asteroid. Decloaking off of it gave the ship (who had one hit point if i remember) its action and didnt have to roll for moving over a asteroid.
