iOS app for running X-Wing Tournaments

By Osoroshii, in X-Wing

The app is simply called X-Wing TO and it will help you run an X-Wing event. I'm not the designer of the app. I found this just browsing the App Store. I downloaded the app and found it to not have any bells or whistles but does what is needed.

From the start screen select the + sign to beignet a new event:

Select the type of event and name it. From here it is a saved file you can return to.

Enter in each player, validate thier squad , and check them in. Once all players have check in you can set up the pairing.

You don't put in the result of the match but rather the point destroyed. The app will calculate the rest for you and even settle the ties. It has a built in timer.

Once you complete all the rounds the app will show you the results

A very solid start for a tournament running app. Would like to see a squad builder and squad tracker built in for data collection. That would certainly save MajorJuggler a lot of time.

Thanks, just wish we had a squad builder native to the iOS.

Our club is looking to host a tournament in the near future and I came across this last week whilst searching for tournament organising software. I downloaded and tried it out, It looks good and performs well. I wonder if FFG would sanction it for running/hosting tournaments?

I also agree a iOS squad builder would be good too. I use army builder to build my squads and transfer them to my ipad, but am still waiting on the volunteer data authors at Army Builder to finish testing and release their updates to bring it up to date with all the current ships.

I'm the developer of the app. It has just been updated with feedback from other TOs :)

The problem on iOS is that every release has to be approved, and I had to deal with legal issues since the imperial and rebel logos are copyrighted. Basically, Apple requires developers to have a SW license to use this kind of material. That's a major issue for a squad builder app, and too bad since I know such an app already exists but it's not on the store… That would be great if we could have some support from FFG on this.

Fairly sure battle scribe is on the Apple store and you can do x-wing easily on that guy who does the files updates regular and hasn't made a mistake yet.

Brings me to a Quartermaster link in the App Store. $9.99 CND. Looks to be just for Warhammer 40k.

Again, just wish some iOS programmer from the X Wing community would put something together for the iPad, again a squad builder would be perfect.

Hi,

I have make some Test with 'bothanspay' and i can say....he make a nice App. Im TO and use this app for our Tournaments.

It is simple and have all what you Need! I will not missing it!

A new update has been posted using the margin of victory as the first tie breaker, complying with the latest tournament rules ;)

Breaking Ties

If players have identical win-loss records, the tie is broken based on the difficulty of their competition. If the tied players have played against each other, the player that won that match wins the tie. If they have not, “tie- breaker points” are awarded by calculating the strength of each player’s schedule by combining total match points of all their opponents. The player with the most tie-breaker points wins the tie and advances. This way, the person who played the most “difficult” games wins the tie. This procedure is also called the “strength of schedule.”

Have the Tournament rules been updated from this?

Have the Tournament rules been updated from this?

Yes. A new version of the Tournament Rules, Epic Tournament Rules, and FAQ were posted a couple of weeks ago. Strength of Schedule is gone and has been replaced by Margin of Victory. My tablet PDF reader won't copy/paste or I would post the relevant new rule. Sorry.

Jim

I've looked up the new rules. Sorry I missed the new rules, I've been traveling a lot for work and vaction. Here is the new section to avoid confusion.

Breaking Ties

If players have identical win-loss records, the tie is broken based upon Margin of Victory. The player with the highest Margin of Victory wins the tie and advances. If the players are still tied, calculate the strength of each player’s schedule by combining total match points of all their opponents. The player whose opponents had the highest total combined match points wins the tie and advances.

I'm going to add support for elimination rounds. Basically, the app will ask if the TO wants to proceed to tops when appropriate. The TO can continue either with swiss rounds (and cannot proceed to tops for the rest of the tournament) or can proceed to tops for the concerned players (the number of players is chosen by the app according to the total number of players).

I need some new testers to test this feature. Please send me a private message if you are interested :)
