Dutch, Is He Living In The Past?

By Jisforjets, in X-Wing

I haven't played rebels in about four or five months. I used to really like Dutch.

Is he out of the meta? Biggs seems to have kicked him out.

I having been doing well with six ship howl swarms and now phantom in my local tourneys. Not having recent rebel experience is hurting my squad building.

I don't know what it means to say that Biggs kicked Dutch out of the meta, since they do very different things--but the Regionals results say he's still around. There's a chance he'll come back substantially since Ion Cannon Turrets are a fairly effective way to shut down Phantoms, and Dutch + Ion Cannon Turret is one of the better ways to run ions.

He's not bad. Easily the best Y-wing in most cases.

Not as prominent as he used to be, but he's still relevant

I think he will see a resurgence with R7-T1. I think the card was made for him.

I've had success with Dutch (ion) Biggs Blue Squad x2. I think R7-T1 will do quite nicely on that probably. Why have Dutch or Biggs when you could have Dutch AND Biggs.

I don't think Dutch is bad or outclassed but you can definitely get a lot out of just the basic gold squadron + ion combo and spend those points on upgrading another ship. It all depends on what you want your list to do

I'm intrigued by the concept of running Dutch with R7-T1 plus Biggs with R7. If Dutch has ion then you 42 points left which could a bunch of different options.

The way I keep looking at list building Dutch is with a mini swarm. PS 4 Tala Squadrons with EU seem efficient and controly combined with an ion. That Biggs and blues list looks pretty solid too. I would think advanced sensors will be missed.

It's missed but I've found that Dutch serves as a second Biggs. After Biggs is dead everyone guns for Dutch, leaving you to use he blues for offensive assaults. By the time Dutch is gone the two blues remain and usually you're outgunning and have more hull left than your counterparts. Works great even without Adv. But if that's not your style, Gray with an ion to allow for AdS works just as well too.

Dutch is still useful. Horton meanwhile?

I try to make Horton work all the time. Just feels so point inefficient.

I couldn't agree more Rakky Wistol!

I've run this a few times now, it's awesome. A Y-wing dodging arcs? Yes please!

if he had an ept, and no point cost increase, I could see him getting tons of play. There are so many combos that would be outstanding on him with his ability. . . so sad that you have to pay 1 point AND give up your droid to get an EPT. Definitely not worth it, considering he shines with proton torps that already add too much cost.

........................no.

This has been yet another edition of short answers to stupid questions. Next week: is the Phantom overcosted? Stay tuned!

I like running Dutch behind Biggs with draw their fire and ion cannon. He spams target locks, covers flanks/rears and soaks crits for Biggs, all at 30 points.
