I'm on the fence on whether to paint my pegs black or leave them clear. I have black silicon filled bases for weight and magnets. You can see by the pic the paint covers the silver ball barring. What would you do?

Here is a pic showing the tilt.

Black looks good. You could speckle the black to make it more in keeping with a starfield.
Looks awesome!
But hmm I like both versions!

Yeah me too, but the OCD in me makes it all or nothing!
Well u cant go wrong with either one so ![]()
How about clear for rebels and black for imperial? ![]()
Here is a shot of Imperial ships:

how do you tilt the ties??
Magnets I assume. But I'd like to know where to get ring magnets that small.
Same way as the other ships.
Look at the second picture, magnets with silver ball barrings.
I'm about to be doing this myself, and I'll be painting the pegs black, including the ring magnet, so that it doesn't stand out from the model and the base so much.
I like painted bases and pegs. I've seen them painted in black, and painted in bright yellow -- and both approaches work fine.
The bright yellow bases actually looked great in a mirror match, and made it very easy to figure out whose ships were whose.
sweet!
Black, w/ white star speckles. I find the un painted silver ball to be distracting.
Looks great otherwise. What did you use, little magnets? Where did you get the cupshaped piece glued too the ship?
Here is where you can order the ring magnets http://www.kjmagnetics.com
The part number for the ring magnet is : N42
The part number for the steel ball is : NSB3
They are easy to attach with superglue.
Thanks, but aren't the ring magnets all are N42? I guess is should be some sub-type code?
Sorry your right: R421
Design wise I like the black, just as the clear ones. But immersive wise I like to feel as much as possible that there is no peg. so I would leave them clear.
I like the painted pegs in the pics, not sure if they'd appear differently in person tho!?!
It all depends on what game mat you regularly play on.
If the mat you play on mostly is the one in the photos, then I recommend leaving them clear. The way I see it is that you would paint the pegs in order for them to be less noticeable, but that would only be the case on a black mat so they would fade into the background.
On this mat it just makes them MORE noticeable when they're black because of all the bright colors.
You can also order larger magnets for the large ships. The YT-1300 has a little looser hold than I would like but works. The Firespray needed a little doctoring to get the magnet seated correctly. Here is the Firespray:

The magnets I used for the large ship are countersunk for better grip:

Am I the only one who likes unpainted pegs?
Brilliant use of magnets, by the way.
Both look pretty great.
I play on black felt at tournaments mostly. The mat in the other pictures is actually the mat I use the least because the dimensions are off sadly
, but it was free so it's hard to complain. Here is my frozen planet mat from Galeforce 9:

I painted all the stems for my BFG stuff black but I think xwing works with clear stems.
