Combat Phase - Damage Adjustment Order

By Chioxin, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This is a question about how your roll dice and how they are adjusted. Like, is there an order to it.

Currently, I usually tell the attacker that they must roll their dice, then make all adjustments they want. So, using "Focus" to turn eyeballs into hits. Or cards that might adjust other aspects of the attack. After that, I do any adjustments I'm allowed.... Like making them reroll dice or what not.

Now here's the tricky part. If I've done that and let's say they have a target lock they didn't use.... Can they now use that target lock to roll bad dice results they got from the "reroll" adjustment I made them go through?

Example.

Attacker rolls :: Hit - Miss - Eyeball

Defender :: Adjust that hit to an Eyeball.

Attacker :: Use Target lock to roll :: Hit - Hit - Miss

Is the above allowed to happen? Or must the attacker make all adjustments they can and then they are done period? I guess, this seriously comes into question with a specific card [can't remember which right now] that allows the "Defender" to turn an "Attacker's" HIT into an Eyeball. This dice is now locked in that it can't be "Rerolled." However, can the Attacker say "AH HAH! Well I'll just use my "Focus" to change that eyeball back into a hit!!!" Or are they not allowed to react to that?

Another question... Which has to do with Han in the Falcon. It says he must roll as many dice as possible again if he chooses to reroll. That includes any hits he got too right? He can't just re-roll results he didn't like?

Thanks for the replies, for those who reply. ;)

Rulebook p11 in Modify Attack Dice section.

"the defender resolves his abilities before the attacker"

As Ghost pointed out, the rules do specify in what order dice are roled and modified.

. Roll attack dice

. Defender modify attack dice

. Attacker modify attack dice

. Roll evade dice

. Attacker modify evade dice

. Defender modify evade dice.

As for Han, yes, he must reroll as many dice as posible, that includes hits/crits. Just remeber that you can only ever reroll a dice once.

The card you are thinking about is sensor jammer

The card tells you how to resolve the eyeball modification of the attackers die. They cannot reroll it, but they can still use a focus token to modify it back into a hit.

You've been playing it wrong. when being attacked, you must make your modifications before him. Once you let him spend his focus, you've lost the opportunity to modify his dice.

basically the first person to modify dice is the person who did not roll them, but the other implied part of your question holds true.... Each player only has 1 opportunity to modify dice, so if you do something, then he does something, there is no opportunity to change it, Ben if you have something that will.

This is also important with the R7 astromech, which allows you to force a reroll of attack dice when you have a target lock on the attacker.
