Rebel Wins with Fourth Wave

By ghaerdon2, in X-Wing

I've been trying for two weeks to win with the 4th wave. Actually longer since I won an E Wing a month ago. I'm just coming up craps. Not just bad rolls, not just piloting errors... I can fly a ship or two.

1) Is anyone else finding the Imperials wining the meta? By like 80 - 90 %?

2) what is your winning build?

I want to stay rebel, but seriously I haven't seen anyone really win over the Imperials in a long time in our gaming group.

Phantoms are weak vs stress. Try flechette torps (which stress regardless of damage done), stress astromech, or tactician.

Defenders are pretty well rounded, but can't handle turning well. If you can get in close on the flanks, they'll have to take a red turn to engage you. While three Red dice is pretty potent, unassisted rolls can flop pretty easy. Since they're expensive, they won't have a whole lot of ships to back them up. Forcing them to flop attacks really hurts their squad's damage output.

I've notice when people don't take this information into account, then yes, they have been winning pretty easily. However, employ those tactics as best you can and they'll eventually go down.

I've won a store champion ship, an imdaar event, and came in 3rd at regional's all with rebel lists.

Store Champ (5-0):

Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)
Fire-Control System (2)
Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)
Fire-Control System (2)
Red Squadron Pilot (23)
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Total: 100
Imdaar (5-0):
Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)
Fire-Control System (2)
Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)
Fire-Control System (2)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Fire-Control System (2)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Fire-Control System (2)
Total: 100

Regional's (4-1):

Biggs Darklighter (25)
Wes Janson (29)
Swarm Tactics (2)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Total: 100

God I hate rebels, its almost like having your tv stuck on MSNBC.

God I hate rebels, its almost like having your tv stuck on MSNBC.

The empire contracting Fox news was a brilliant idea of the emperor's, letting everyone know all of societies problems are due to aliens who hate our way of life.

As for wave four I have only played one game to date and my defenders ended the game before the z-95s could do much and the e-wing turned into a debris cloud the first time I shot at it.

Anyone remember the threads of "Rebels OP" from a few months back?

I remember that thread it was just before the "Imperial is overpowered" thread and long before the YT-1300 is Overpowered.

And the outrider is op. Pretty balanced game we have here. I played a defender list and won. Haven't faced a phantom but I'm ready.

Loyalty is my honor , death to the rebellion and all alien species.

I think Murdoch could actually be a sith Lord. would explain a lot.

I mostly play imperials but I've not lost with Rebels in the handful of games I've played with them during Wave 4. I've mostly been playing this list: Ebaht, Blue with FCS, Gold with Ion, and Rookie. I've faced lists that included phantoms (including Echo) defenders, and lists with neither.

What I find odd is that few have stated a winning build. It's fine to say oh this is another gloom and doom thread about the state of the rebels, but let's see some back up. I'm more than willing to say I'm a bad player / builder, but I'd like to see some other opinions before I resign myself :-)

This was really helpful. So you simply Ion the heck out of the phantoms ... Sounds about right.

Yes, I've built a half dozen or so lists for rebels since Wave 4 came out and every one comes with an ion turret (the other list that I like a lot for rebels in Wave 4 doesn't actually feature Wave 4 ships). The list goes against what I think the meta trend towards (higher pilot skill), but Abaht is my favorite new rebel pilot and his ability works best with a decent amount of firepower behind it. Against phantoms, I've tried to keep it in formation to keep the phantoms at a distance, or move the Y-wing to cover the phantom's approach, TL the phantom as soon as possible and hopefully getting a TL+Focus once it's in range. I'm sure it won't always work, but so far it has provided a nice psychological advantage so far.

My build that I've beaten a defender and bh list with. As well as a supped up B rebel list. Hoping to face a phantom list tonight.

The Imperials are winning hard at the moment because they have the hard counter to the current metagame. People are very slow to abandon the metagame.

Yep. People refusing to abandon the meta so easily. And look who won as a result.

My personal experience has pretty much been that the Rebels usually have the advantage. I'm not complaining so much as making an observation to which many of my Rebel playing friends concur; Rebels have far more synergistic builds available to them.

I had my first win in weeks yesterday (I Play 1-2 matches a week)....

Vessery (HLC)

Jonus (Munitions Failsafe, Cluster Missile, Swarm Tactics, Seismic)

Scimitar (Munitions Failsafe, Cluster Missile, Proton Torp, Seismic)

Regardless of my record, I love playing the Imperials, and I don't mind losing as I always manage to have fun when I play. Looking forward to the Decimator....

Or maybe some benevolent leader who disguises himself as a real Sith would. Hmm, who could that be?

What is the meta? Every game I have played has been against a different type of build...granted I'm new and only played a few so far. :D

Would love to know how it goes.

I'd also like to know what people's perception of the meta is. Around Minneapolis it was lots of 4-ship Rebel builds with 2 B-wings and not a whole lot else, except for Falcon lists, but it seemed like things were different elsewhere. The Imperial lists I saw tended to be shuttle + miscelaneous Ties.

This is my experience, hence the reason why I asked about wave four. I think the new Imperial ships are a good solution to the previous rebel meta.
