A role for Fettigator?

By DoubleDown217, in X-Wing

Perhaps Fettigator with VI would be a great counter to echo?

We've been discussing this. I think it'll work great. 42 points for the setup, work from there. Rebel Captive in another ship can work wonders as well. It basically makes that ship immune to phantom fire. Echo especially loves it to annoy Whisper, Soontir, etc.

The Fettigator also does well against defenders and outmanuever.

The problem is taking him to a tournament. Is he a liability against non phantom lists?

Not enough love for Fett, it would be interesting to see if these new ships change that.

The issue with fett has always been that most good players Know where they want to be. The firespray is an amazing ship. Having it at PS10 is great. But its vulnerable to action denial. Fettigator is actually very good at avoiding that. In addition now there are more times qhere you don't know what to do because Phantoms and Outmanuever.

So it's no more a liability than any other 42 point ship. It hurts your firepower, but not so much as to be crippling.

Plenty of room for 2 interceptors there.

Noob alert!!

What is fettigator?

Boba fett + ?

Sorry

What is fettigator?

Boba fett + ?

Navigator. Essentially, if Fettigator chooses any bank maneuver, he can switch to any other bank maneuver instead when he moves (and at PS 8, that's after most others).

Fett + Navigator.

It allows for more freedom of movement.

Fett allows you to change the bank direction, Nav allows you to change distance after dials have been revealed.

( Edit: Sorry for the double up)

Yep, choose any bank and when you reveal it, you have your pick of any of the 6 bank maneuvers!

I (like others I assume) like Fettigator in theory. It would be nice to see him have a decent role.

2 build that I plan to use more now that the Phantom is here:

Boba Fett + Veteran Instinct + Navigator + Engine Upgrade ( nobody can hide from the best bounty hunter of the galaxy)

or

Boba Fett + Veteran Instinct + Han in Carbonite... I mean Rebel Captive! + Engine Upgrade (still enough maneuvrability with Engine Upgrade and the rear firing arc to get the Phantom in sight and he won't cloak back after shooting you, so if you get into the end game against him, the odds are highly in your favor)

Both cost 47 points so it leaves you with 53 points to complete your team.

I'll do some testing to see if Engine Upgrade is really necessary. If I could drop it, I could complete the team with Howlrunner and 3 Obsidian (PS3 to avoid giving 2 reroll with Predator) or Howlrunner with Hull Upgrade and 3 Academy.

The role of the Fettigator is a vain attempt to make Fett's ability cool. That is all.

In a game where guessing yoiur opponent's ship position is harder to do because of the decloaking versatility and where a ship with a turret can barrel roll to attack at 4 dice but can't shoot back in range 1, I think Boba Fett's ability can be handy.

And let's face it, he's only one point higher than Kath and I have yet to trigger her ability too so, even if you hate his ability, you are still getting one more PS than the other pilot with a useless ability. Combine with VI, you are ensuring yourself that you will shoot first, except against rebel ship boosted by Roark.

But as you can see, I'm also not sure that Navigator will be the crew to take against Phantom, that's why I made a second one with Rebel Captive to ensure that the Phantom get stress for shooting at me. And he's more thematic too so, bonus point.

47 pts is a lot of pts to dedicate to stopping 1 ship worth 35.

At least with the falcon builds they work well against most ships. Personally I think the opportunity cost is too high to use Fettigator.

Fett is better than Kath in this meta due to the 2 points for PS surpassing both phantoms. That's a small price to pay. And his ability is better against Phantoms, albeit narrowly, than Kath's.

Navigator may not be necessary as it allows for distance control, but engine upgrade moves him too far for practical use most of the time. Without Navigator it's useful. With it you have no need for boost.

They cost 46.

If only...

Boba Fett (39pts) + Veteran Instinct (1pts) + Rebel Captive (3pts) + Engine Upgrade (4pts) = 47pts

Never mind. I crossed the PS with points in my brain.
