Rule compilation
Forgive me if this has been asked before but I have been away for a long time. Are there any plans to compile all the rules into one rulebook like a reference rulebook?
I hope so, but I think the closest you are going to get is the new format FAQ, which does include all the expansion rules in one place. Given that new expansions regularly add to the ruleset, I think this is what we are going to get, so that it can be regularly updated.
FFG needs to. Its getting the point where not everyone is playing the game with the same understanding of the rules. They need to have one rulebook instead of having to bounce around with the original rulebook to the updated rules online.
I believe the latest version of the FAQ does a fair job of this.
I don't think it's a huge issue as the rulebook pdf isn't too large. I've downloaded that, the FAQ and the huge ships rules and that should have everything covered. What I like about this game is you don't need a massive hardbound tome of rules and then a similar volume for each new release (like some other games
).
Each new release is easy to blend into the existing game system. I think the most innovative addition we've seen lately would be cloaking and that was covered with two reference cards. Brilliant!
I really think that a "rulebook" in hardback or really any printed form is unlikely. As other posters have said, it is much easier to update/maintain a pdf and FAQ. I would wager that more and more game systems will be going to this type of update/rulebook as they are easier to stay on top of and everyone can just download them to their phones.
