Just curious. How many people supply ships for their casual/friendly opponents? Or do people just buy for themselves and have opponents who bring their own materials? I tend to buy for my whole group but I'm still not shopping like a quartermaster for the Imperial Fleet. I get that the people who frequent these forums are the more serious gamers. And this is my first table top game so maybe I'm just used to buying complete games (like board games). How many do you think the average buyer has? Or is the average table top gamer fairly invested?
Do you buy for yourself or for your playgroup as well?
I specifically went out of my way to buy enough to be able to field a team epic game comfortably with my own pieces. I started out buying... selfishly as it were, but decided I'd go more wild and be able to cover my friends who either don't have the cash, or have busy enough lives to not be able to commit.
i buy for me and my kids to play.
I buy for me, but I buy for both sides so I often cover friends lists as well as myself.

Ditto.
I bought for me and my wife. My wife decided not to want to play. Then another friend wanted to play, and he eventually wound up with a set of his own.
I'm hoping to get more people involved. I might even do a demo game at the library for the Teen Council there. That will hopefully get some new/young blood flowing in.
I supply all the cards and models for my group. Because of this we sort of have an understanding at events that any promos or cards from tournaments go to the collection. ... promos usually get sold to buy more ships. Medals deck boxes belong to the players.....I forgot to mention I pay all thier entry fees too. I guess you could say I sponsor my X-Wing group.
I buy for myself, but I have enough (and carry enough bases, tokens etc) for two people to play.
I buy for me, my kids, and my friends.
Having at least one of everything means that everyone can play pretty much what they want & if they have their own collections we're all happy to borrow each other's stuff to make exactly what we want.
I buy for me and my friends..
Thats the only way I can play this game..
My friends wont buy it, and I have to push them to play with me ![]()
I always play in the service of the Emperial army.
But I will of course give my opponents all possibilities to make
their rebel scums lists. So I buy more or less the same amount of Rebel ships as Empire ships.
I bought enough to field 100 pts of each ship type for each faction, but that ended up being enough usually for 4-6 people to play individual games. Another player started collecting for himself, so that helps.
I bought them because I wanted to, but I'm willing to provide them for games.

same for me
Me and my play group.
Same here - I buy for myself and for the people I play with on regular basis with one guy being an exception, having a fleet of his own.
I buy more than enough to supply my friends that didn't commit to the game.
I have enough to make about 8 lists using different ships so a format that I like is to make 6-8 list and then, at the start of the tournament, each player randomly pick one. It forces them to use some ships they usually would not pick and allow me to see some list in action that I otherwise would not have the time to try.
Edited by Red CastleI have enough to cover almost 4-5 people with competitive list as long as there is not too much over lapping in upgrades.
I buy enough for me + friends.... however the times when I'm actually able to play against friends who DON'T have X-Wing miniatures of their own are very rare. It's good to have alot if you want to teach someone how to play - but more often than not, if they really like the game, they are going to go out and start their own collection.
I collect for myself, but occasionally play casually with my brother, who only bought a couple Rebel ships for himself, so he uses my stuff a lot. I also have two friends I play more seriously with who have their own fleets, so I guess a little bit of both?
I am very guilty of buying for the gaming group. We are constantly trying to get new folks into the game and it is a much easier sell when people feel then can come in and try a ship or two before they buy them. I am at the point where I could run a tournament out of my box!
Edited by EvilEd209I have a hard time finding hobby people in my area, so I buy enough to run multiple games for both sides. Luckily the ships are pretty, so it's not hard to convince me to buy more.
Edited by SkargothI buy for both sides.
I tend to buy enough so I can build whatever list I feel like for which ever Faction I choose. After that I usually leave my case open for people to grab what upgrade or pilots they want to try.
My personal best is I had 5 Squads built and in play at once. I tend to let it slide quite a bit but, I am not above commenting to people how much nicer it is to be able to sit at home the night before and build your own squad.
I buy for myself and my son. My opponents are working adults and have to support their own gaming hobbies. I am not opposed to loaning models and cards out though.
A couple of months ago I was buy and supplying the group of guys I normally play with. But over the last few weeks, nearly all of them have got into it and bought decent size fleets of their own. Now I'm only lending the odd ship every so often. It's making for bigger and more exciting games with lots of ship options.
I buy for my self and my gaming group. So far, several players have made contributions but in general... its just me. Of course, I benefit because I get people to play with and more models to paint up.
