Tonight I got a chance to test my new Chewie build. I only got one game in and I made a crucial mistake that cost me the game. On the way home I started thinking about what I did and how I could make the list better.
This is what I faced off against:
3x Bandit
2x Rookie
1x Blue
Thats a lot of ships, and a lot of hull to chew through. We were playing a 60 minute game, so my idea was to go in, kill a Bandit off the bat, and then go for targets of opportunity, aiming to win by time. I flew the following:
Chewie + Predator + C3P0 + Luke + Millennium Falcon + Engine Upgrade
Ibtisam + PTL + Advanced Sensors + Flechette + Engine Upgrade
I managed to accomplish some truly fancy flying with Chewie, managing to thread two asteroids with a millimeter to spare on one side, and a few microns on the other side. Needles to say, for the first four or five turns, Chewie managed to evade most incoming fire by arc dodging. Ibtisam also managed to get out of a lot of fire lanes with relative ease, flying like a slow interceptor.
The combo of Predator and Luke is ungodly especially against the ps2 spam I was facing. Going with Luke is probably overkill, and I probably could swap him for a standard gunner.
The main problem I had was with Ibtisam. He just wasn't fast enough or maneuverable enough to keep up with the Falcon. I also forgot about the Flechette Torpedo.
My big mistake was on one turn I was hesitating on moving really fast with Chewie or taking a medium speed move and then boosting. I opted to move really fast and flew really close to the edge, which limited my next move. Thereby setting my opponent up for a series of turns where he blocked the only possible positions for Chewie to go, and then he burned him down with the ability to take actions. This was with 3 minutes left to go and I had killed two Bandits and working on the Blue.
So I have amended my list slightly.
Chewi + Predator + C3P0 + Gunner + Millenium Falcon + Engine Upgrade
Ethan + PTL + Advanced Sensors + Engine Upgrade
Ethan being in an E-wing gives me all the speed I need. Plus, more critically, he doesnt have any red turns, making PTL easier to pull off. He looses the sweet 2 k turn, 3 hull and stress rerolls (which were awesome on Ibtisam), but he makes up for it with 3 agility, the evade ability, the ability to move 4 (without stress) and 5 speed forward and making one of Chewie's hits into a crit (as thanks to 360 fire, Chewie will always fire on Ethan's target, unless he is finishing off a ship). And thanks to being the same PS, I can choose which to move first. Thats a big plus for me.
It needs a lot more testing and it requires thinking ahead a turn to not box myself in, but I see it as a very interesting build.
