Next list I want to try, designed to make phantom and interceptors swear.

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

Outer Rim Smuggler + Anti pursuit lasers x 2

Rebel operative + ion turret x 2

If only there was some stress causing mechanic in, but I am at 100 pts exactly.

Delete the post, turn off your computer, and go stare at the royal guard interceptor model.

And the imperial navy will not punish you for threatening the coolest ships in the game.

To which I respond with:

Whisper

-Flight Instructor

-Fire Control System

-Advanced Cloaking Device

Royal Guard Pilot (X2)

-Outmaneuvre

-Shield Upgrade

I'm not sure the list has enough dice to threaten. I think a Phantom/Interceptor list will be able to wipe out the ROs quick, and then obliterate the ORS.

Besides all of the above, you have failed to use Y-Wings. This is a grotesque oversight on your point, get sip itch the golds man.

I think my post may have been to subtle with the intended humor. Your list with Y wings would be a tournament winning one from several months back.

Meh. So last wave. :P

You seem to mistaking the word "swear" with "laugh at you".

The list you describe is the worst list in the game. Basically it's intention is to take away your opponent's ability to play the game. Awful example of a list.

Why not just play a game against yourself, if the other team is just gonna be ion'ed and stuck bumping your YT's all game?

With no way to TL and focus with your ROs you'll have a hard time ioning interceptors. You might ion a decloaked phantom, but with ACD that may not be something you'll see (and if they are good enough pilots they may just be able to stay at range 3 where you can't touch them). The list kind of falls apart if you cant ion anything. That list might make shuttles/bombers swear.

lol this is the exact reason I stopped using ion effects when playing against newbies. It just felt boring, and I felt bad that they didn't get to plan their moves which is a big part of the fun of this game.

Because it's fun to mess with your opponent from time to time? I mean, I wouldn't run this kind of list against a newer player, or very often at all, really, but every now and then it can be fun to be a total troll to your friends.

Control is a major element of this game. It is stronger against some lists than others, and it is the opponent's job to deny the control. This list has almost no firepower, and it has a lot of bad matchups. Don't get on someone's case for playing the game.

I'm a big fan of both interceptors and phantoms. I will laugh at your list. If you want to make me swear run this:

100 points

36 points
Luke Skywalker
R2-D2, Shield Upgrade
39 points
Etahn A'baht
Sensor Jammer, Stealth Device
25 points
Tarn Mison
R7 Astromech

I agree, it can be fun to play... diabolical lists. I've fielded Ys with Ions and Hobbie+stress droid. And, as mentioned, this list shouldn't control the game too effectively. Phantoms will eat it, since they'll always be cloaked, and interceptors will be a pain to Ion. I think Bs and Xs will be the big sufferers against this list.

Wow... that's... harsh.

Phantom's would quake at this list:

Han Solo (46)
Determination (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Lando Calrissian (44)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Total: 100
Double 3-dice turret, PS9 with engine upgrades... nasty.

Wow... that's... harsh.

;)

But no, if a PS3+ Phantom can't avoid a pair of PS1/2 pilots whose whole build revolves around crashing into you, something is seriously wrong.

The intention of every list, at least every list that wants to win, is to take away your opponent's ability to play. When their ships go boom, they don't get to play them.

Otherwise I leave you with advice from Yoda, "Control, control, you must learn control."

I'm not on his case for playing the game. I'm appealing to his humanity, for denying his opponent the ability to play the game.

You make a good point, but there is clearly a difference, because once you destroy your opponent's ships, the game ends. However if you are chain ion'ing and block-bumping an opponent via this method, then they can literally do nothing, but they have to stay at the table while you finish the game solo - and that could take quite awhile with the low damage potential of that build.

Look at it this way. The game is supposed to be fun. Even if you lose. It's still a fun game either way. However when you play a list like this, your opponent doesn't have fun.

I am not a great player myself, but no list is all powerful. I personally think dual yt is kind of troll like, but I don't whine about it. Play to win. Adapt and overcome. I would not be mad at someone for bringing a list like this. We are all trying to build a list to win, and action denial is a great way to do that, and things like in cannons are written into the game for precisely that purpose. I have been beaten badly and still had fun. That part is mostly up to me. In other words, "don't hate the player, hate the game" or as C3PO would say, " it's a fair move, screaming about it won't help."

Having said that, damage output is too low. I also recommend bringing ywings instead of hawks. You need more red dice. After you stop them, you still need to kill them. Consider a bwing, possibly with EU to be your killer. Swap the other hawk for a ywing. I would probably run only one ORS, and fill in with an X or an A to intercept. A ninja B with high PS ought to pose a challenge for echo, especially with that y wing around.

I think if someone fails to have fun playing xwing then they are the one who has done something wrong. This list can kill almost nothing, and even the ioning will be inconsistent. To fight it you stay at range 3 and focus fire. It will have two measly defense dice. Three with the Hawks but they can't take a hit. Besides, if you are flying phantoms you still have a lot of movement ability, even if you are ioned. Remember de cloak is not an action and the particle accelerator lets you cloak if you shoot. How many 4 dice hits do you think an ORS can take?

Short version is I don't call any list cheap or dirty, save as a term of admiration, while I figure out how to beat it.
