New to Epic Play

By Smashotron, in X-Wing

Hey guys,

I am new to the game but recently expanded my fleet to include one of each small Rebel ship. I wanted to see how many points I had available, with the most options taken, and only using the cards I own. Now, I don't understand the tactical differences between Standard and Epic play, but would this list do any good? These are all the ships I own.

While not a requirement I would expect a Huge ship en an epic format game.

But assuming you will face an Empirr lidt, expect to face a lot of enemy ships. So perhaps more generic ships and less named pilots would be better. But hhat mesns buying more ships.

So mh best advice it to try it and see how it works out. You might loose but still havd a blast as hhe rebel heroes try to stop hhe imperial swarm.

I would suggest finding a buddy to team up with and altering your list to a team epic format. It looks like you're trying to maximize your point value, which while leading to cool pilots, doesn't tend to fare well.

As it is, you're taking the single most expensive pilot for every ship you own, loading them up with a ton of upgrades, and then sending them out - you can save 142 points by stripping upgrades and converting down to the basic pilot at each level. While you can pad your numbers a little bit, that's almost half your points spent in upgrades.

I would suggest something closer to:

Try this

The name of the game here is the HWK and Y support your B-Wing, giving it the target locks and focus it wants to fire torpedoes, while advanced sensors let you barrel roll into good firing arcs. This squad hunts the big bad / annoying stuff, like phantoms, interceptors, and firesprays.

Edit: The real beauty is hitting a ship you don't want to deal with with both ion and a flechette torpedo - the ion means they'll never get rid of the stress and you can escort them safely to the great scrap yard in the sky (That means blow them up).

The three X-wings, Z-95, and Etahn fly together dealing with the swarm your opponent is going to be bringing - the assault missile will help a ton against any swarm, while Etahn helps the combined 12 attack dice of him and his Xs turn into crits against unshielded TIEs.

That said, if your goal is to do epic no matter what I highly suggest grabbing the Rebel Transport. It's fairly cheap online and not terrible at your FLGS, comes with an X-wing, and the transport itself is an absolute beast in epic games. (And only ~40 points kitted out!)

Smashotron, whilst I'm still to play Epic myself I suspect you will need a greater number of ships to be competitive mixing elite pilots with some more expendable ones!!

I'd suggest keep playing and enjoying the 100pts standard or find opponents to play at 150 or 200.

Keep building your squad in line with your budget, and then when the time is right unleash hell on those pesky Imperials!

Fly Imperials, we have cookies.... and Interceptors!

Don't be fooled by their biscuit propaganda.... it's a well known fact that Academy pilots get digestives at best.
