Newbie and Intelligence Agent...

By Tiltowait, in X-Wing

Again, thanks all for the support as this poor fella tries to graduate from the Academy.

Next question: Intelligence Agent. 1 pt, elite crew. At start of Act. phase, look at one ship's maneuver dial within rb1-2.

What I am trying to figure out is how this helps. You already have planned your maneuver. If your pilot skill is higher, you see where he ends up anyway. If you are lower...maybe. You sacrifice your focus or evade for the positioning via boost or barrel roll? Or is there something else?

Best used when you have a ship moving before the ship you spy on and your ship has some kind of movement related action. If you have ships with boost, barrel roll, or something else that allows you to go someone other than where you initially planned the IA allows you to "react" to the enemy's position before they even get there. This may let you escape an arc, put the enemy in your arc, or even allow you to "block" the enemy.

Without movement related actions/ship abilities IA becomes much less impressive. Knowing where an enemy is going may let you know what action to take if it isn't otherwise clear (hey, I'm not going to be "in arc" so I can TL this round?) but beyond that its value is minimal. If all/most of your ships move/act after the enemy then AI is pretty much just there as a point burner.

There's also this build for YT-1300s.

Outer Rim Smuggler

Navigator

Intelligence Agent

Anti-Pursuit Lasers

As a large-base PS1 pilot, this ship specializes in forcing enemy ships to crash into it. You see where they're going and can use Navigator to change your speed if needed. You deprive them of their action, force them to possibly take a hit or crit, can't get shot in return, and the enemy squad doesn't have the benefit of Focus or Evade tokens to defend themselves.

It now has an inherent weakness against Phantoms, but should be effective against any other build.

I use it on my Phantom in case I run into a pilot with higher PS. I can avoid where he's headed with my decloak movement and still get my shots off.
