Report: I finally got to play me Wave 4 stuff.

By Hrathen, in X-Wing

I got my Wave 4 stuff last week. I finally got a chance to play and see all the ships played with.

These are my first impressions of each ship and their pilots after they were played.

TIE Phantom - Reminds me a lot of the TIE Interceptor. By this time many of you have either tried or seen Soontir Fell + Pt, usually with at least one more upgrade. For me that upgrade is Stealth Device. I live flying this Soontir build because it really rewards skill in this game and punishes mistakes. I believe that the Phantoms are going to play a lot like these PtL Interceptors. If you just joust with them and rely on you stats to save you they die fast. But if you can rely on their tricky (decloaking) moves + a great dial they can be awesome. And those 4 attack dice really shine when you are able to come in and blind side someone. Of the named pilots my favorite was Echo. Making his decloak moves banks just increases all the different places he can go. I saw a few Phantoms get stressed+ionized and it was nasty. Like I said about the Interceptors, when things go bad for the Phantoms they go really bad.

TIE Defender - I spent the most time trying to make these work. I am not too excited about the named pilots. Rexler is going to want his focus to help hit or dodge so he wasn't that tempting. Vessery would be great if very many other had TL on their action bar. I found myself adding entire ships to my list just so they could give Vessery TL. I do think if you are going to then you want a shuttle with ST-321. But my favorite Defender turned out to be the PS 1 Delta Squadron. The Defender itself is a pretty complete package. I didn't have too much trouble with the dial. I found the K turns to be awesome,

E-Wing - Loved these guys. We played a big 200 point game and Etahn was a star. At first glance he seems to be the rebels first swam support ship. And lots of people have recommended trying get the most out of his ability with lots of Z-95s. But Etah doesn't help ships hit it just makes those hits more punishing. I recommend that you back Etahn with other 3 attack dice ships, the rebels are spoiled for choice in that. Corran Horn was not surprisingly also awesome. You need to be careful not to over use his ability, but when you really need it, that extra shot is awesome. Also I think it is important to be very deliberate with your upgrading of your E-wings. System upgrade and a droid upgrade make them IMO the most versital small ships in the game, but just because you can upgrade them does not always mean that you should.

Z-95 - I didn't see any unamed Z-95's play, but Airen Craken was the man. His gift of free actions, early into combat was awesome. He is also a great with swarm tactics. He is definitely one best buys in the game. I didn't see Blunt play but I am excited to. He will be awesome, but I won't go into it because it would all be speculation.

Got my long awaited Phantom and E-Wing yesterday :) , but still waiting for a chance to use them :( .

Cracken with wingman rocks. Use wingman to remove a stress from a buddie then your attack gives them an action. Even after you all k turn. I love it

Hrathen,

for Vessery, something as cheap as an Academy with Targeting Computer works brilliantly.

Got my 2 defenders and 2 phantoms yesterday! :D

Can't wait to try them out.

Mostly likely going to be a 150 or 200 point battle.
