Cracken with Luke/R5-D8 in a simultaneous fire situation

By Sergovan, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I posted this hypothetical situation to Frank as it revolved around abilities that could remove hull damage but after hull number was reached. This is the second scenario I thought of (the first was the Fel's wrath vs Coran Horn extra round ruling which is another thread)

Here is the question and response:

Hello Sergovan,

Rule Question:

Airen Cracken and Luke are squadmates.

Luke takes fire and has 3 hits to his hull, but it is simultaneous fire and Luke and Airen still have time to go. Airen shoots and gives Luke a free action. Luke uses R5-D8 to remove one of the hits to his hull.

Is Luke destroyed or not?

Luke is destroyed. Due to simultaneous attack rule, after Luke has his chance to attack, he is removed. Even though he is removed with fewer than the number of damage cards to normally remove him he “was destroyed” so he is still removed.

Thanks for sharing! I believe that was the general consensus as the simultaneous fire rule only delays the removal of the ship, it does not check again to see if the ship is alive (can't really repair an exploding ship lol). Good to know that is the case, thanks!

On airen I read AFTER perfoming an attack, so when the attack is ended simultaneos or not Luke is already destroyed. i think that is correct that you can not recovery last damage.

The official take on it is Luke has had is chance to fire, so that's it. Once he's fired, he's removed. Simultaneous attack rule no longer applies to him. Good to get the clarification on how this works.

It's a concept that I wanted to get cleared up.

Once the hull value is reached a ship will be destroyed, even if you have a repair in the works that can reduce the damage to the hull.
