Let me rephrase, No random. But if you print the Pilot cards than you need the "Ship Tokens" and every else. I'm suggesting one box set for the Empire and One box set for the Rebellion.
What fantasy flight games should do for Wave 6 is add more variants of the existing ship.
Wouldn't it just be easier to continue doing Aces style packs with two new paint scheme variants and accompanying pilots/ship cards? I can totally see a Rogue Squadron pack or a 181st pack that could accomplish exactly what you mean.
I'd love to see more ships with different stats, much like the Outer Rim Smuggler vs YT-1300. It would have been interesting if the Rebel Operative's ship didn't have the same stats as the named HWK pilots.
Okay here is my wishlist.
Official Battle for Yavin Mission pack with deathstar trench and exhaust port that is reversible for Yavin Base and Rebel landing strips. 2 Turbolaser turret models for missions and 1 Y-wing with 2 new Y-wing pilots and 1 Tie Fighter with 2 new Tie Fighter Pilots.

That's what I talking about!
Yes colicoid did.
No. No random boosters. Never ever ever.
No one said anything at all about random boosters.
The LAST thing this game needs is random card packs. I would absolutely HATE to lash out my hard earned bucks on a card pack only to discover it was full of cards for ships I don't actually have. The fickle gods of fate would do that to me every time!
What I would like to see is some card packs with new pilots for the ships we've already got. I think the OP's idea has some merit, but I doubt we'll see FFG go down this road for quite some time. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
This thread makes me want to bang my head on the desk. FFG are already implementing this. Waves are for new ship releases. I would say that we might start to see further apart waves and more "Aces" style packs filling in the gaps.
I think FFG can be trusted to not introduce random booster packs. Their LCGs are well received and work in an environment where you know exactly what you get. It would be a different business model to go into random boosters.

Actually they don’t! The “Aces” styles packs only add new Pilots and new Pilot skills. (And very few of them!) But the Spacecraft remains the same. A X-Wing is a X-Wing is a X-Wing. I’m talking about changes to the spacecraft itself. There are modifications, but that is not a true variant. Modification are like changing the radio. Can a X-Wing launch a Missile? No! And there are no mechanisms in the game to allow. And there is not logical reason why they can’t. (I could get real examples, but you either like or you don’t!)
It is just my humble opinion! Peace!
But, the Aces packs also encourage the use of older pilots, which is much, much better than re-using pilots. And I'm curious where things like the Chardaan Refit or B-wing/e2 fit into your scheme. As those seem to be exactly the type of things you want.
How would people feel about an Aces pack for Y-wings that gave us the Clone War variant? Same stat line as the current model, but a slightly different looking model. Forget about the practicality of this: I'm just curious how people would feel about the model itself.
I, for one, am hopeful that 2015 will see nothing but Aces and Huge ship releases. I honestly do think we enough different fighters for right now, and I kinda want the game to slow down a bit with the release schedule.
I Am encouraging both. The B-wing/e2 is close. But how do you change out the Torpedo launcher for a Missile launcher. Would not the rebel have a few B-Wing that could Launch Missiles! Of course they would. That would be one variant to the B-Wing. You still would have the Modification slot as well as the System Slot. And you still could take B-Wing/E2 Mod.

I looking for more variation in what has already been released. There are only 4 Tie-Advance Pilot, There are only 4 Tie-Bomber Pilot. I would like that!

Imperial Aces: Hull Upgrade, Targeting Computer.
Rebel Aces: Chardaan Refit, B-Wing/E2
You were saying?

Given the amount of customization already available, I don't know that this is really needed. Assuming Wave 5 is just those 2 large ships, the next releases should be huge Imperials and "fixes" for the weaker ships, namely the TIE Advanced and HWK. Some people really want Y-wing and Bomber upgrades, but those ships' problems are secondary to the Advanced and HWK, which get virtually no play. I see Ys and Bombers fairly consistently, so they must have some roles.
The Hawk sees no play for reasons totally outside its playability. It's a great ship with amazing named pilots. That and a Boost to the Y-wing provides options for both the Hawk and Y-wing. The Advanced does need more help though. For sure.
perhaps a single miniature Storm squadron Aces pack with new pilots and a Tie Advanced X1 title card that gives an extra missile slot and / or a second upgrade slot

At that point it would be better to just include it as part of a wave. Have it be a tie Advanced with a Tie Avenger Sculpt and 2-3 Avenger titles per pack. Aces packs have been repaints, but there's far more demand for the resculpt than a repaint. It covers everything people want, so long as the Avenger Title makes the Advanced Playable.

I was under the impression that the Avenger - while being a product of the new designs made on the Advanced - was a completely different ship - So while adding a new TIE would be great, it doesn't really address the issue of the Adv.
Thinking about the Y-wing, I recall reading somewhere that during the OT timeline, very few Y wings had working turrets due to the difficulty of maintaining them and the limited resources available to the Rebels - let us not also forget that the Y wing is a two seater who's original role was as a heavy fighter / light bomber combo.
So it would seem natural- not to mention thematic - to improve the Y by perhaps adding a "repaired turret" upgrade which reduces the cost of turret cards or adds a turret gunner crewmember - plus a modification that adds a bomb slot so that it can reprise it's role as a bomber.
Or here's another thought that would huge fun - "Y-wing turret gunner" - increases range on all turret weapons to range three - couple that with a bomb or a mine in the pipe, and the usual game of getting the TIEs to chase your Y-wing while you hit them with the ion turret gets very interesting
Edited by FunkletonI would much rather see different sculpts than different versions of the same ship.
Aces are good too because at least they have different paint schemes and come with interesting pilots and cards.
I don't think I could disagree more with this sentiment.
It's called X-Wing because that's a better name than, "ATTACK ATTACK"- which Wizkids is REALLY set on.
