Ok. Ok. Ok. So, story time.
When they first announced wave 4, I was excited. Defender and Phantom? Wow. Totally didn't expect the Defender to be 3/3/3/3, and didn't expect to see the Phantom at all. Not even any named pilots that I knew of. But then I saw the Defender's cost and I wasn't sure. It looked cool, and I knew I'd want one, but I really wanted that Phantom.
But then as the weeks and months went on, something changed. I got my keester blistered pretty good in a few Epic matches and suddenly what I wanted was a small ship that could carry Ion Cannons. So while I knew I wanted both ships, I figured I'd get the Defender first. If I got the chance at Imdaar Alpha, I'd pick that one.
And I was not disappoint! I flew my Defender well, with a win/loss of about 3-1. Not bad. Not bad. I started to wonder if I'd really like the Phantom more than the Defender after all.
But tonight, I finally got to do this. This was going to be my Final Table (but it turned out our store did things a bit differently).
"Whisper" + VI + Weapons Engineer + ACD + FCS
Vessery + Outmaneuver + Hull Upgrade (or Ion Cannon for the second game)
BST + Predator
Good. God. This build was so aggressive, and so masterfully devastating. Once Whisper fired, he was never without a TL. Which meant Vessery was never without a TL. It killed about 1 ship per round, and they were an E-Wing, Biggs, and Ten Numb in game 1. The firepower? Remarkable. The maneuverability? Unprecedented. If ever there was a ship to make Soontir Fel feel like a worn out hat, this is it. He got about 4 hits through before evasion dice on average, and got a crit through about a third of the time. DEVASTATING.
I think I'm in love, guys… I think I'm in love.
