What is the best Tie Bomber build?

Soaking hits & delivering Seismics.

I've been trying multiple ordinance heavy Bombers with limited success. One big problem is often the low PS bombers. With the popularity of high PS lists often Gamma/Scimitar pilots move in before PS5+ ships and are denied a lock. Giving your opponent a chance to lay some nasty crits on you before you can deliver your payload. Add to that the list of critical damaged cards that can seriously compromise your ship like blinded pilot, damaged cockpit, damaged sensor array and worst of all munitions failure.

Right now Major Rhymer is the only bomber id consider loading up missiles/torpedoes. At least until FFG gives us a way to bump up bomber PS a la VI or like the royal guard TIE pilot in a later expansion.

So given that there's 2 ways I'd use bombers. 1) Major Rhymer + mini swarm or 2) Howlrunner + Scimitar x5. Now I'll admit I've never used bombs/mines so i cant say if they will increase the bombers effectiveness. Just feels like your hoping for your opponent, who will know if you're using bombs/mines, to voluntarily step into your trap.

I hope that FFG will produce a "Ace Pack" For Bomber!

What is the best mix of Tie Bomber and Tie Fighter?

Noob q: Which secondary weapons does Rhymer's special ability affect? I'm specifically thinking about what effect he might have on bombs - if any.

Rhymer has no effect on bombs. Only on weapon ranges of secondary weapons.

Thanks. Now, have I understood this correctly, then: Seismics hit shields, protons bypass. Correct?

Correct. The difference is in the wording of "damage" (which is applied to shields first) and "faceup damage cards" which are, well, faceup damage cards no matter how many shields the opponent has.

Last night I tried:

Vessery: Predator, HLC, Stealth Device

Gamma Squadron: Flechette, Assault, Failsafe

Gamma Squadron: Flechette, Assault, Failsafe

I played poorly and lost, but I really like that list. I'm not convinced about the stealth device because I usually roll crappy and lose it right away, but the idea is for Vessery to hang back a bit so he has 5 green dice.
