Chewbacca ability vs. a Proximity Mines

How does Chewbacca’s ability work against a Proximity Mines.

When you are dealt a faceup Damage card, immediately flip it facedown (without resolving its ability).

Proximity Mine Token:

When this bomb token detonates, the ship that moved through or overlapped this token rolls 3 attack dice and suffers all damage and critical damage rolled. Then discard this token.

Would Chewbacca take a critical damage if roll by the mine?

Yes, Chewbacca's ability works on Proximity Mines.
If he would be dealt a face-up damage card, he flips it face-down, irrespective of the source of that face-up damage card.

Currently the only ways to get a Face-up Damage card to STAY on Chewbacca are:

Saboteur
R2-D2 (Crew)
Rexler Brath

As C. would receive a face-down damage, which they would then flip face-up.

Thank you for your response, though I’m a little confused by the answer.

I think you meant say “NO”, Chewbacca would not take the Critical!

Just to make sure,

If Chewbacca detonates a mine, you roll three dice. If the dice roll a critical, the card is flipped over facedown without resolving its ability!

OK, I understand! Thanks

Yes, it's a very handy skill, but he's not immune to criticals if you can flip one on him.

Chewbacca's ability works on critical's being dealt to him. Any critical coming in gets flipped over to normal damage before being assigned to the ship.

Chewbacca's ability does NOT work against cards already on the ship being flipped over into a critical.

-see DraconPyrothayan's post for sources of flipping damage cards.

Anytime Chewbacca "suffers damage" or is "dealt" a card, his ability will work on that critical card being dealt.

Anytime it says "flip", his ability will NOT work on that critical.

Chewbacca's ability works on critical's being dealt to him. Any critical coming in gets flipped over to normal damage before being assigned to the ship.

This is not actually correct. Chewie does do this, but also does more.

I think it's beneficial here to strip out some of the terminology and focus on the ability. Don't worry about crits or criticals - they're irrelevant.

Chewie says (from memory, apologies if it's not quite right) "When you are dealt a face up damage card, immediately turn it face down without resolving its effects."

So when he gets dealt a face up card, it gets flipped down. Doesn't matter what the origin of that card was - critical hit during an attack, Proton Bomb, asteroid collision - card is dealt face up, it goes down.

For something like Saboteur or Rexlar Brath, the card isn't being dealt, so Chewbacca's ability doesn't apply.
