2 ship builds?

By glewis2317, in X-Wing

Will this ever be a viable option?

I'm going to play later tonight and I want to just set down two souped-up Ewings on the table and see what happens.

Maybe the Falcon and an E-Wing.

The problem with a 2-ship build is you want insanely high Survivability and insanely high Damage, so that you can kill more than half their fleet before they kill a single one of your ships.

You basically want tanks.
Instead of models.

Alternatively, if you could take a Phantom, and give it the HP of, say, a Firespray, you could pull it off.

Duel Falcons and to a more extent dual Firesprays are both very tanky and their damage output it generally pretty good.

I suppose a tooled up Falcon + maybe Corran could be interesting

I think it would be fun to do loaded E's and/and or B's vs Loaded Tie Defenders

On the Rebel side dual Falcons could work and perhaps you can make a Falcon + E-Wing work. Besides those options I'm not really sure I'd want to put 33+ points of upgrades on two E-Wings. I'm not sure how you'd figure out how to build two E-Wings as a pair.

For the Empire I'd say you could come close to running double Firespray, Defenders, or Phantoms but again you're looking at spending a lot of points in upgrades that could be going to another ship.

I'm very much looking forward to giving this a try:

Chewbacca (42)

+ C3-PO (3)

+ Hull Upgrade (3)

+ Lando Calrissian (3)

+ Predator (3)

Corran Horn (35)

+ Engine Upgrade (4)

+ Push the Limit (3)

+ Fire Control System (2)

+ R2 Astromech (1)

Keep Corran out of the way unless he's double-tapping (fly him like an Interceptor). Meanwhile, Chewie is stupidly tanky with almost no need to aim, and possibly pseudo Target Lock + Focus every shot (via Predator + Lando).

Interesting? Certainly. Good? I have no idea, but I hope so!

I'm 2-0 with a Han shoots first with Luke with PtL, R2-R2, and engine upgrade. It was fun.

I just tried to make a defender 2 ship list. But without the sensor slot it just doesn't have a good enough action economy. PtL is tricky with their green selection. FCS would help defenders a ton I think, as would advanced sensors for being able to use their red turns. So much potential for the defender if they gave it the sensor slot instead of to the phantom #missedopportunities

I've got a list of two Defenders that I want to try. Rexler (Outmanuver) Vessery (Veteran Instincts), each with Engine Upgrades, Ion cannons? and Homing missiles.

The problem is being singled out of course, but I figure if I know that's coming I could try to bug out with the target and come in with his wingman to flank. This might be a better strategy with Phantoms, though on the other hand Defenders have greater survivability in general.

I played two E's last night against a Defender and mini swarm. The first match was disaster. I ran both my E's up the side of the map, in formation and they got dead quick.

The next match I separated, the E's. I had PtL, Advanced Sensors, engine upgrades, droids, and flechette torpedoes. I had them zipping back and forth across the board, taking shots at whatever was in front of them. I did really well, but a couple of hits by the Defender's HLC and that was all she wrote for my E's.

So, no. Two ships is still not enough.

Hull Upgrade is just as good as Shield Upgrade on Chewie, unless you're really worried about an extra card landing on you vs an opponent with Brath or Saboteur .

How about this: dropping Lando to Han and replacing predator with PtL, switch the engine and hull on the ships and use the leftover point to upgrade the r2 to an r7, oh and the point you didn't spend could go on the falcon title.

I like Predator because it's not action dependent, and there are all kinds of more tools now to give ships stress, but PtL is of course almost always good. I do often put Hull on ships with only 2 to start with to prevent lucky Proton Bombings, but PS8 should avoid that anyway. R7 is definitely something I want to try with FCS at some point, but I love flying Interceptors and with the R2 and Engine, you have even more options for green + Barrel Roll + Boost. So, to sum up, all good suggestions, just not quite as fitting my style. :)

as long as your not going up agianst tie swams 2 ships can be fun you get to fill them up with all the upgrades. you dont get a chance to do that often

Yeah but what do you want to do with the extra point? Only thing I can think of is VI and I'm not sure you really want it as large ships tend to benefit by going earlier in the turn sequence.

Keep it for Initiative to force Echo to move before Corran?
